FX has renewed its new comedy The League for a second season, the network announced today. The show — about a group of friends in a fantasy football league — received an expanded order of 13 episodes for season 2, which will debut next year in late summer. The League‘s first five episodes averaged just over 1 million viewers; the season 1 finale airs tomorrow night.

Film, television and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth will host the 15th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards gala January 15 at the Hollywood Paladium. The show honors achievements in film and will be broadcast live on VH1 at 9 p.m.
Tyler Perry's mother dies
Tyler Perry’s mother, Willie Maxine Perry, passed away yesterday, according to a message posted on Perry’s website. No cause of death was mentioned for the 64-year-old, who was an inspiration for Perry’s Madea character. Perry told Essence Magazine in 2006 that “The nurturing part of Madea comes from my mother, who would open the doors of our home to you no matter who you were.”
IMAX and Summit team up for 'Eclipse'
The third film in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight vampire series, Eclipse, will also be released in IMAX theaters when it premieres June 30, 2010. It marks a first for the franchise.
Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady welcome baby boy
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen and star quarterback Tom Brady are proud parents. People.com reports that the couple welcomed a baby boy. His name has yet to be announced. It is the first child for Bundchen, and the second for Brady, who has a 2-year-old son with actress Bridget Moynahan.
Kate Gosselin in Raleigh for new TLC show
Kate Gosselin spent three hours filming at Finch’s Restaurant in Raleigh, N.C. According to that city’s CBS affiliate, WRAL, the reality-TV star was serving up pancakes and grits to customers while TLC camera crews recorded her every move. A TLC spokesperson confirmed that Gosselin and the cable channel are currently developing a new show and the diner shoot was part of that process. Though it was not clear if TLC intended to return to Finch’s in the future, a diner employee stated that no filming was scheduled for today.
Rashida Jones logs in to 'Social Network'
Rashida Jones has joined director David Fincher’s Facebook movie. Variety reports that the Parks & Recreation actress has a role in Social Network, the Aaron Sorkin-scripted film about the founding of the revolutionary social networking website, starring Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg.
Mandalay takes rights to Elizabeth Eulberg's teen novel 'Lonely Hearts'
Another teen book could be coming to the big screen. Variety reports that Mandalay Pictures has optioned the film rights to Elizabeth Eulberg’s forthcoming teen novel The Lonely Hearts Club. Eulberg is a PR director at Little Brown who worked on the Twilight series. The Lonely Hearts Club is about a broken hearted teen who inspires other girls to stop dating. The book is out Dec. 29 from Point/Scholastic.
Corbin Bleu to star in Broadway's 'In the Heights'
High School Musical star Corbin Bleu is heading for Broadway, Variety reports. Bleu will take the lead role of bodega owner Usnavi in Tony-winning musical In the Heights early in 2010. His 13-week run will kick off Jan. 25. He is the first HSM cast member to come to Broadway.
TNT renews cop drama 'Dark Blue'
TNT has picked up cop drama Dark Blue for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dylan McDermott stars in the drama, which returns in 2010.
