In a move that is worrying publishers, bestselling author Stephen R. Covey has signed an exclusive e-book rights deal directly with Amazon.com for two of his books for one year. According to The New York Times, Covey is moving the e-rights to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Principle-Centered Leadership from print publisher Simon & Schuster to RosettaBooks/Amazon for one year.

Kenny Ortega to direct feature film version of Tony-winning 'In the Heights'
Kenny Ortega, director of the High School Musical franchise and Michael Jackson’s This Is It, will next helm a feature film version of the Tony-award-winning 2008 Broadway musical In the Heights, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film — which will star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who composed, wrote, and starred in the stage production — will follow three days in New York City’s Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. Ortega recently bowed out of directing a remake of Footloose, telling EW.com at the October premiere of This Is It that he “wanted to take a few deep breaths and relax before I resurface.”
'30 Rock' star Grizz Chapman seeking kidney transplant
Grizz Chapman, who acts as part of Tracy Morgan’s loyal entourage on NBC’s 30 Rock, will announce on the Dec. 15 episode of The Dr. Oz Show that he needs a kidney transplant, reports People. Chapman suffers from severe hypertension, but he must lose 75 pounds before he can become a viable transplant candidate. “Whatever I can do for the longevity of my life, I’m going to do,” he says.
Reggae star Buju Banton faces drug charges
Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton attempted to buy cocaine from an undercover officer in Florida, according to the AP. Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, negotiated the buy and was seen checking out the cocaine offered by the officer. He has been in U.S. federal custody in Miami since Thursday and faces a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
'Lost,' 'Dexter' and 'Glee' among nominees for 2010 Writers Guild Awards
The Writers Guild announced its nominations today for outstanding achievement in TV and news, among other categories. Series competing in the drama category are Breaking Bad, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Lost and Mad Men while 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Glee, Modern Family, and The Office will duke it out in the comedy category. Glee and Modern Family will also compete against The Good Wife, Hung, and Nurse Jackie for the best new show award. The WGA prizes will be distributed Feb. 20.
NBC announces premiere dates for 'Chuck,' 'Parenthood,' and new show from Jerry Seinfeld
NBC announced its midseason and post-Winter Olympics schedule today, including the start date for Parenthood and the much-anticipated return of Chuck. Parenthood, from Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, will bow March 1 while the two-hour premiere of Chuck will air Jan. 10 (it’ll move to its regular day and time slot on Jan. 11). On March 14, NBC will premiere The Marriage Ref, a comedy panel series from Jerry Seinfeld about marriage. The Celebrity Apprentice returns for a third installment on March 14, while the ninth edition of The Biggest Loser gets back on the scale Jan 5.
NBC’s January programming also includes “The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards,” hosted by Ricky Gervais, on Jan. 17.
