J.J. Abrams' 'Undercovers' gets its first cast member

J.J. Abrams’s NBC pilot Undercovers has its first cast member confirmed: Gerald McRaney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McRaney will play a CIA operative and the liason for the central characters, a married couple who are spies. McRaney’s credits include Jericho, Deadwood, and the forthcoming A-Team film.

HBO to start second season of 'Tim' on Feb. 19

HBO will launch the second season of animated series The Life and Times of Tim on Feb. 19, Variety reports. The second season, comprised of 10 episodes, is currently in production. The first season ended in November 2008. Tim will now follow the new animated series The Ricky Gervais Show.

'The Help' film in the works with Chris Columbus' production company

Bestseller The Help is now being fast-tracked for the big screen, Variety Reports. Chris Columbus’ 1492 Productions is working on the project; Tate Taylor wrote the screenplay and will direct. The current bestseller by Kathryn Stockett is about wealthy white women and their African-American domestic servants living in 1962 Mississippi. Taylor, who grew up with the author in Mississippi, came on board the project even before the book was published. The filmmakers are planning a spring 2010 shoot in the South.

Nickelodeon orders more 'SpongeBob SquarePants'

Nickelodeon has ordered a new 26-episode season of SpongeBob SquarePants, Variety reports. The eighth season, which will now go into production, will start airing in late 2010 or early 2011.

Polls: Tiger Woods' popularity has taken huge dive

New polls taken by Gallup Poll/USA Today and Washington Post/ABC News show that Tiger Woods’ popularity has declined precipitously in the wake of admitting to infidelity and tabloid reports linking him to several women. According to Yahoo!, Woods received a 33% favorable rating in the Gallup poll, down from 85% in 2005–an “unprecedented” plunge, according to Gallup. In the Post/ABC poll, one in four people said their opinion of Woods was “strongly negative.”

Comcast to provide HBO, Cinemax and other cable content via the Web

Comcast will begin letting subscribers of its cable and Internet services to access and view cable TV shows and movies over the Internet effective tomorrow, the AP is reporting. The service, called Fancast Xfinity TV from On Demand Online, will include content from HBO, Cinemax, and 25 other cable networks.

Brian Setzer fine after brief hospital stay

According to a post on Brian Setzer’s web site, the singer is fine following a brief hospital stay for dehydration, high altitude sickness, and vertigo. The former Stray Cats frontman checked into the hospital Monday night after performing three Christmas songs with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. The singer’s tour will continue.

Lil Wayne sentencing set for Feb. 9

The AP is reporting that Lil Wayne will be heading to jail in February for his New York gun case. Today, a Manhattan state court set the rapper’s sentencing date for Feb. 9, a mere 8 days after the release of his next album, Rebirth. In court today, Lil Wayne remained silent. He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a charge that stemmed from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus. His plea deal required a year in jail.

Lindsay Lohan's father arrested

Lindsay Lohan’s father has been arrested in Southampton, NY, the AP reports. He has been charged with misdemeanor criminal contempt in connection with violating an order of protection. His ex-wife and Lindsay’s mother, Dina Lohan, has a restraining order against him dating back to 2005.

Chris Brown deletes Twitter account after dispute with Walmart

Chris Brown has deleted his Twitter account after spending his weekend using the social networking service to take Walmart and other stores to task for not stocking his new album, Graffiti, E! Online reports. On Sunday, the scandal-plagued R&B singer tweeted: “JUST WAS AT WALMART IN wallingford CT,844 north colony.. the didnt even have my album in the back… not on shelves, saw for myself…we talked to the managers and the didnt even know anything. wow!!! but they had alicia keys album ready for release for this tuesday comin…no disprespect to alicia at all.. just givin an example to whos album is loaded and ready to go next week.”

Walmart responded with a statement: “We are surprised at the comments online,” read a statement released by the store today. “All Walmart stores nationwide have carried the CD since its release, including the Wallingford store mentioned in the post. This store actually sold through its initial shipment over the weekend. The majority of our stores today are showing they do have copies available.”

As of yesterday, Brown signed off Twitter with one final mesage: “I WANNA THANK MY FANS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT. I LOVE YALL. GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!”
