Steve Carell, Tina Fey could reteam for 'Mail-Order Groom'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Carell and Tina Fey could be teaming up again in Mail-Order Groom. The pair are “loosely attached” to the Warner Bros. comedy about a single American woman who brings home a groom from Eastern Europe. The idea for the film came from Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond and screenwriters Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri. Now, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have come on board to do a light revamp of the script. Carell and Fey star in the upcoming Date Night.

Disney scraps 'Wild Hogs 2' plans

Disney has abandoned plans to make Wild Hogs 2: Bachelor Ride, Variety reports. The studio didn’t reveal the reasons for abandoning the project. The sequel to the 2007 hit had been set to shoot by summer 2010 with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy reprising their roles.

CBS says yes to 'Mike and Molly'

CBS has ordered a comedy pilot named Mike and Molly from Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot, about a couple who meet at a weight-loss support group, will be written by Mark Roberts, who is also an executive producer on Two and a Half Men. Roberts will executive produce the new comedy with Lorre.

63 songs competing for Original Song Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 63 songs will be competing for the Best Original Song Oscar this year. Hannah Montana: The Movie led the pack with five eligible tracks, while four songs from The Princess and the Frog are up for the award. Voters from the Academy’s music branch will meet Jan. 12 to view clips featuring each song and then determine the category’s nominated songs.

'American Idol' creator unveils his next reality project

American Idol creator Simon Fuller has announced his next big reality endeavor, If I Can Dream. The innovative program, which will debut online in early 2010, focuses on five young individuals — a musician, an actor, two actresses, and a model — as they share a Hollywood Hills house while trying to break into the entertainment industry. Viewers from around the world will be able to watch the show’s participants live 24/7 at the show’s website, while Hulu will stream a recap episode at the end of each week.

Viewers will also be able to interact with the show’s participants via MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and texting as the action unfolds in real-time. If a contestant on the show drops out for any reason, a replacement will be cast through an open audition process featured on MySpace.

Nicolas Cage to 'Drive Angry' in 2011

Summit Entertainment has secured the domestic distribution rights for the revenge thriller Drive Angry, starring Nicolas Cage, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, which is currently in pre-production and will be released Feb. 11, 2011, follows a man (Cage) who tries to chase down those responsible for the death of his daughter and the kidnapping of her baby. The film is being shot in 3-D by director Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine).

French singer Johnny Hallyday cancels tour

Johnny Hallyday, one of France’s biggest rock stars, has canceled the final part of a concert tour, according to the AP. The 66-year-old singer was hospitalized last week in Los Angeles following complications from a back operation that was performed last month. Doctors awakened Hallyday Tuesday after the singer spent several days in a medically induced coma. Hallyday was scheduled to tour France with performances in January and February, but those shows have since been canceled, and ticketholders will be reimbursed.

Garth Brooks suing Oklahoma hospital for $500,000

Garth Brooks has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against an Oklahoma hospital in hopes that the country star will recover a $500,000 donation he made in 2005, reports TMZ.  In the lawsuit, filed in Oklahoma, Brooks states that he gave $500,000 to Integris Canadian Valley Regional hospital in Yukon, Okla., with the agreement that it would be used for the construction of a new building to be named after his mother, Colleen, who died of cancer in 1999. He claims that hospital officials told him last year that the building would not be part of the hospital’s $27 million renovation project. A hospital rep told TMZ that it hopes the matter will come to a “swift and amicable end.” When contacted by EW.com, Brooks’ publicist confirmed her previous statement:  ”This deals with his mother, the home town and the people he grew up with and is deeply personal.”

Swiss officials to decide on Polanski extradition early next year

Authorities in Switzerland will make a decision on whether or not to extradite Roman Polanski to the United States in early 2010 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, the AP reports. A spokesman for the Justice Ministry said that officials are still considering the U.S. extradition request as well as an argument from the 76-year-old movie director’s attorneys that he not be turned over. Polanski, who was arrested Sept. 26 in Zurich, is currently under house arrest at his Swiss chalet.

DreamWorks to make adaptation of 'War Horse' novel

DreamWorks has purchased the film rights to the 1982 novel War Horse, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Set during World War I, Michael Morpurgo’s book centers on the friendship between a boy and a horse.  Billy Elliot screenwriter Lee Hall will pen the script, while Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest are set to produce.
