Shane Sparks, best known for his work as a choreographer for Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, was arrested in Los Angeles Friday morning on charges of alleged child molestation. Sparks, whose real name is Melvin Hall, is being held on $590,000 bail. L.A.’s FOX 11 News reports that the criminal complaint against Sparks, filed yesterday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, includes 9 counts of molestation all focused on one alleged victim, a former dance student, dating back to the years 1994 to 1997.

'Avatar' earns $3.5 million from midnight showings
Director James Cameron’s long-awaited sci-fi magnum opus Avatar pulled in $3.5 million in grosses from last night’s midnight screenings, according to 20th Century Fox. The haul for Avatar, which is estimated to have cost in the neighborhood of $300 million to produce, lagged far behind such franchise films with rabid built-in audiences as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which earned $22.2 million and $26.3 million from midnight screenings, respectively. Still, Internet ticket sales figures suggest Avatar will debut strongly with domestic opening weekend grosses in the $80-85 million range, helped by higher ticket prices for 3-D showings.
Jon & Kate Gosselin officially divorced
People.com is reporting that Jon and Kate Gosselin are officially divorced, after filing papers in June. In a statement, Kate said: “I am very relieved that our divorce has been finalized, and I look forward to the New Year, focusing on the children. On behalf of myself and my legal team, I want to express my deep appreciation to the Judge and his staff, as well as to the arbitrator, for resolving this case. This has been a challenging transition for all of us, but I am confident that we will move ahead with the important task of restructuring our lives.”

Twitter hacked by 'Iranian Cyber Army'
Twitter was hacked last night, directing users who tried to log on to a site sporting a green flag and the proclamation, “This site has been hacked by Iranian Cyber Army,” according to CNN. The website was reportedly down for nearly an hour. The company responded to the flap on its official Twitter feed, saying at about 2:30 a.m. ET on Friday, “Twitter’s DNS records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed. We will update with more information soon.”
Ivan Reitman says script in the works for 'Ghostbusters 3': Report
The Hollywood Reporter’s Roger Friedman reports that Ivan Reitman hsa confirmed that a script is in the works for Ghostbusters 3. Sigourney Weaver had recently alluded the the project in interviews for Avatar. Reitman said that the film could move forward in 2010.
Warner Bros. signs up for Steve Carell father comedy
Warner Bros. bought an untitled spec script by Cars writer Dan Fogelman to develop as a star vehicle for Steve Carell, Variety reports. Carell will also be one of the film’s producers. Carell will play a father who goes through a marital crisis and has to manage relationships with his children.
Taylor Lautner to star in action film 'Cancun' for Summit
Taylor Lautner will star in action project Cancun for Twilight producers Summit Entertainment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is the first film from the new production company Taylor has started with his father Dan Lautner. It will be developed as a starring vehicle for Taylor (and will also showcase his martial-arts skills); his dad is in discussion to be one of the film’s producers. The story follows a spring-breaker who goes to Cancun and has to save his friends after they are taken hostage by a drug cartel.
Bryan Singer to develop 'X-Men: First Class'
According to the Hollywood Reporter, director Bryan Singer is returning to Fox to develop X-Men: First Class, the next installment in the movie franchise that he helped launch. Singer directed the first two X-Men movies before hopping to Warner Bros. to helm Superman Returns. First Class will serve as a prequel, depicting the teenage lives of the mutants (including new characters), the first meeting of Charles Xavier and Magneto, and the origins of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Jones dies at age 90
Jennifer Jones, an Academy Award winner for her starring role in 1943′s The Song of Bernadette, died Thursday at her home in Malibu. She was 90. Jones was married for 16 years to movie mogul David O. Selznick who cast her in many of his own movies as well as those of others around Hollywood. Her last film was 1974′s The Towering Inferno opposite Steve McQueen and Paul Newman. She appeared in 22 films over a career that spanned 35 years. Her other Oscar noms were for roles in Since You Went Away, Love Letters, Duel in the Sun, and Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing. She is survived by her son Robert Walker, stepson Donald Simon, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Tony Goldwyn, Sean Hayes, and Kristen Chenoweth to star in 'Promises, Promises' B'way revival
Musical comedy Promises, Promises will be revived on Broadway this April, starring Tony Goldwyn (Ghost), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), and Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked). The Wedding Singer choreographer Rob Ashford will direct, in his Broadway helming debut. Originally produced in 1968, Promises, Promises is based on Billy Wilder’s 1960 film The Apartment, and features music from Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David, and a book by Neil Simon.
