what will truly be funny is how RATM will HAVE to be played every year now on the countless “Christmas #1′s of the Decade/Last 25 Years”, shows. These Christmas countdown shows are played 24/7 on about 30 music video stations here in the UK and this song will now be smack in the middle, causing anyone at home wrapping prezzies to look up and say, “huh?” again.

I wish we could do something like this in the states to stick it to Clear Channel for ruining American radio…

  • Jade, UK

The Climb was picked especially for Joe despite 2nd Place Olly and 3rd Place Stacey also being in the final. RATM beating it is brilliant news and this makes Joe the first X-Factor winner NOT to make xmas #1.

Joe isn’t the best thing to come from the show anyway. You’ve heard of Jedward here right? AMAZING.

  • Joseph

Way to go RATM, stick it to Simon and all the people that promote stupid pop music.

RATM’s music sucks. Which makes this story even funnier.

I don’t like RATM but I’m glad Joe didn’t make it to the top. These X Factor and Pop Idol winners are made (by Cowell and Co) to think they’re the greatest thing on earth, and by releasing a naff cover version (of an already naff song in this case) they’ll command the respect of everyone in the country and be Xmas #1. Joe is welcome to the top spot on the charts, but only when he releases something original.

      Really well put.

    Lame stunt.

    This is a great Christmas!!!!
    RATM #1
    Stop corporate music.

I do not understand the whole “rock is legitimate music, pop is not” idea. I have been moved emotionally by everything from Nirvana to Donna Summer. It’s all valid to me. I just would not buy some of it. I take the same issue with people who belittle singers who only sing. The logic seems to be that playing a guitar makes you a “serious musician”. Sorry, but the voice is an instrument too.

    • Emphram

True! Very well said. I can’t stand that either. I hate that my friends seem impressed when I listen to the latest indie band, but none of them ever think to hear some underground R&B or overseas pop. Stupid pedestal.

Regardless, XFactor stealing number 1 every year is not fun.

Ah yeah, but almost everyone in the UK loves Girls Aloud, who also won the X Factor, because they release new and really, really fun pop singles. It’s not rock snobbery. This was just a terrible song.

  • @ Sean

    Spot on!

  • Emily

Joe SOOOO deserved to win. Have you even heard the song?? its crap, and Joe has the voice of an angel. GO JOE!!

  • Emily

Joe deserved the #1 over that crap. The song is terrible, and Joe has an amazing voice. SOOO unfair.
