Matthew Lillard, who recently shot the film Shrinking Charlotte with Murphy, said in a statement, “I loved her. She was effervescent and lit up the world while she was here. A sweetness and honesty that will be sadly missed. It’s tragic another incredible actor has left us way too early.”

So very sad. It is always tragic when anyone dies so young. She was very talented and will be missed by many. My condolences to her family, friends and loved ones.
SAVE YOUR CONDOLENCES LINDSAY LOHAN…..YOU’RE NEXT!!!
stfu
Don’t put that stuff out in the universe imrite!
Your comment on Lohan is surely to stir up some Karma for you, imrite!!! It’s your Karma…What else can I say?
How rude… this isn’t the time or place for that.
Where’s a “report” button when you need it. F**ktard.
That’s a terrible thing to say! Have some class and some respect.
imrite, you are a horrible person.
Although a bit inappropriate, I don’t think the comment is off-base. I’m sorry, but you don’t have cardiac arrest at 32 without drug abuse. This is as far from “natural causes” as can be. Hopefully a death like this will turn Lohan sober. I doubt it will.
Yes….LILO WILL be the next dead actress you SCHMUCKS are mourning over.
You are trash.
You’re kind of evil.
D…….R…….U…..G……..S
And you are … her family doctor?
No…just someone with common sense putz.
Any druggie would think that the cause of death is drugs because that’s all they think of. Go smoke your crack pipe freak!
HA….YET ANOTHER PUTZ!!!!!
its so sas this year that all these stars that do so much good in the world have tragecally died at such a young age. RIP BRITTANY
What “good” has Brittany Murphy done AT ALL?
I think she was at ONE charity event in 2007…and that’s it.
What a horrible comment to leave. She was a person and I personally think a pretty good actress. Hopefully when you die, people won’t ask the same question. Maybe they will just say you were a pretty callous and insensitive person who really didn’t care to say much of anything nice. What a truly “Jerky” response.
Brittany worked with several organizations – Wildlife Waystation, Looking Beyond (for disabled children), & Ovarian Cancer Institute, just to name a few. Just because YOU haven’t heard of her doing any charity work, doesn’t mean she didn’t do any. Believe it or not, some people, even celebrities, don’t feel the need for their good works to always be publicized.
Are you aware, in that small mind of yours, that just because something doesn’t wind up in the papers doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, just because she was at one charity event in 2007, that we all know of, doesn’t mean there weren’t more. How many charity events have you been to in your entire life?
So attending charity events makes you a good person? Paying your way to celebrity heaven? So how much money do i need to give? How many events so im considered a good person? Putting on a 5000 dollar dress and 10000 dollars in jewelry to go to a gourmet dinner and banquet and give 5K to starving children when you make millions doesnt exactly make you a good person. think about it.
your really a sick person…..only one who dies young is a total loss……no matter who they are…..
Who are you to ask what someone has done? What have you done? Oh, I’m sorry…Who are you!? No one significant of course.
Geeze, judgemental much? It’s a shame when any young person dies. It’s sad for the people around them no matter what the age. Have some decency.
No person’s worth shld be judged by how much charity they do anyway. Bad people can do good things and good people can do bad things. Unless you knew her personnally, you cannot say whether she was a “good” or “bad” person. All we can do is mourn the loss of a great talent, which is all we know to be true.
Hope you’re next …
Oi ‘what?’ how could you say that? :@ you make me so angry grr, you will be missed Brittany
I can’t watch Clueless without crying now
My heart goes out to her family and friends. She was such an adorable and talented actress, so funny! Her and her family will be in my prayers. May she rest in peace.
How incredibly tragic. Brittany was such a wonderfully talented actress. RIP, Brittany
Brittany entertained many of us with ther comedic and acting talents. We as human beings hurt when someone dies before their time and without much of an obvious explanation. I say, if you have nothing nice to say why not keep quiet? Jane? RIP Brittany. I always enjoyed your acting.
What has she done that’s honestly remarkable and worthy of such a fuss? I mean, really–a series of chick flick movies? Come on. And natural causes? How do you die from natural causes at 32? There’s a bigger story here.
More than you Jane, more than you:( Rest in peace Brit
Such as….?
Seriously, I’d like to know what remarkable things Brittany ever did in her life.
Good luck putting together a list for me.
People that young do die of natural causes…my Cousin died at 18, of a heart attack…think before you type…Brittany will be missed by those that knew her, loved her, and by those of us who enjoyed her work
Could you be a bigger b!tch, Jane? This is a young woman who was in the prime of life and who suddenly died. This is tragic and sad. No sadder or more tragic than any other young life suddenly ending, but she has been in the public eye for a long time and so naturally there is going to be coverage. What is wrong with you?
Wow, Jane. Cold-hearted much?
What a heartless comment you have made… It does not matter whether you feel she was worthy of a fuss, any person deserves to be respected when they die.
Perhaps you should keep your cold comments to yourself and let the people who do feel she was talented express their sympathy.
What about “Sin City”, “Spun”, “The Dead Girl”, and “8 Mile?”
These were all great movies she was in!
TLJ i’m glad you mentioned some of her great performances. Especially the little seen movies people probably don’t know about. i think she was the best in those movies.
Jane, that’s was very mean and coldhearted…I hope you get more respect when your gone than what you gave her
To Jane: People can and have passed away of Natural Causes.I know this for a fact.I have worked in a Hospital for many yrs.Just like a baby can pass away of Natural Causes. My heart and prayers go out to Brittany’s family and friends.
My uncle died at the age of 25 from natural causes…..no drugs or alcohol in his system, and no illness. It happens jack ass, get a clue.
She was fabulous in both Clueless and Drop Dead Gorgeous. That girl knew comedy. And she knew knives, too, because she was awesome in Sin City. And King of the Hill is one of my all-time favorite animated series. So I’d say she did something “worth a fuss”. Though maybe you’re a Twitard and are just upset that a little bit of news from something other than RPattz and KStew is sucking up time on the interwebs.
Really? You didn’t really just bring up Twilight, did you??
Too bad your so loney Jane, maybe its your personality that drives people away.
When a kind and compassionate person dies, you treat them with respect and you give condolences to his/her family and friends. You don’t question how many charity events she went to or what kind of movies she made. If you’re not a Brittnay Murphy fan, fine; however, please keep your cold comments to yourself. I’m sure the world and Brittnay’s family would appreciate it. (notice how i didn’t use any curse words or name calling, thats me restraining myself)
amen!
Absolutely! And, thanks for saying it. Jane–regardless of what she has done, it was clear she had fans. If you are not one, then troll another blog! Be respectful.
Jane, what truly remarkable thing have you ever done. A young actress died and it doesn’t matter even if it was a drug overdose, it’s still a life. I’m sure your not mother friggin Theresa.
Agreed lol
Shame on you Jane. As a public that watches a lot of television and movies, we become attached to some of these actors and actresses and take it very personally when they pass away. I remember when John Lennon died, I was a child, but I remember it was the first time I saw my dad cry, he was devastated. And while I cant compare Brittnay Murphy’s death to John Lennons, Im sure that people younger than me feel it very strongly. I loved her movies, especially Just Married, when they got into the fight and she threw the gum in Ashtons hair, how funny. RIP Brittnay, you will be missed.
I agree, I remember my mom crying over John Lennon as well. And, I will never forget where I was when Princess Di passed. I did not know her personally but it didn’t stop me from crying for quite some time. I didn’t cry over Brittany but I do find it very sad and my heart goes out to her family and friends. I really enjoyed her in Clueless, Just Married and Uptown Girls! She was funny, seemed likeable, and here laugh was infectious in a good way!
Ummm not to be rude, Brittany was a lovely girl who had some talent but please do not compare her to John Lennon or Princess Diana- it is ludicrous.
@ MaryJane: When it comes down to it, we’re all just people living on borrowed time. Brittany is just as much of a person as Princess Diana and John Lennon. Please, save your hero worship.
Until it’s ruled otherwise, a cardiac arrest can be caused by: heart attack, collapsed lung, pulmonary embolism, hypoxia, trauma, low blood sugar, heart disease, aortic rupture, GI bleed, OD, drowning etc… The heart can stop. Take a CPR class!!! Or better yet, maybe you shouldn’t. I would hate someone so ignorant of basic first aid information to even try to save another human life. You probably don’t even know what those causes mean. We don’t know the facts yet…but your lack of even this knowledge amazes me.
Brittany just did the world another small favor. She showed us what a douche Jane is.
RIP Brittany.
Jane, take your wretched hatred elsewhere, you ignorant clod. This is a young woman who lost her life. Her life had value, not because she was a celebrity, but because she was simply a human being. She was a daughter, a wife, and a friend to many people. This is a huge tragedy. It’s always tragic when a young person loses their life unexpectedly in this way. You don’t need to be the person who cured cancer to garner sympathy. If you can’t understand that, then I really pity you. Show a little respect. You’re completely heartless.
on IMDB she has 66 acting credits, 6 soundtrack contributions and 1 producing credit and as you pointed out was only 32 years old, what have you done that you can look down on that?
Jane, she was a talented and young actress, who, if given the time, might have gone on to do much more with her career. I do agree with you that her death was probably not natural, but that just makes it all the more tragic. To see a young actress ruin a bright career with drugs, or perhaps anorexia? (this is all speculation, of course) Anyway, just saying
She was a great actress in everything she did. A natural, I for one will miss her in the movies. At least there’s around three movies coming that she will be in.
(Dec. 21 10:03 AM) I remember enjoying Clueless on big screen. This could be the best Silverstone’s performance so far, and Murphy, along with Dash, all three certainly helped making the film a great treat. RIP, Ms. Murphy.
God Jane, someone just died. Don’t be suck a fu**ing C**t.
*such
LOL! I prefer the original.
Ugh, you’re just as bad.
Well said, s.m. my friend. Well said.
well jane, you took time out to comment about it so i guess she must have done something. and also, who said natural causes? it was cardiac arrest…now an autopsy has to be performed to determine the cause.
A show of hands…who wants notification of Jane’s death so that we all may have the pleasure of spitting on her grave? To Brit’s family from ours, we hope you are able to find some solice, Chritsmas is a difficult time to lose a loved one.
call me , I’ll hack up a real big luggie for her. Nothing but the best for Jane.
What Jane said is heartless, but honestly you’re not acting any better than she is right now.
You stay classy, PattyM.
Hey, EW, pull it together. I just read about 15 celebrity reactions at Yahoo’s OMG page. You currently have exactly 1.
Sigh… it is entirely possible to die of a heart attack at age 32, without the aid of drugs or an unhealthy lifestyle (albeit, very rare). I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but it is possible.
That being said, no matter what the cause, it is sad that her life was cut short. She was a very sweet and funny girl.
Exactly! If that’s the case, the whole situation is just more tragic.
As an EMT I would find it deeply disturbing if it is indeed true that she was found in the shower. Whenever someone is found in the shower/tub we immediately suspect drugs, the drugs makes their heart race, their body overheats, and they try to take a shower in an attempt to cool themselves.
very true and the face that that if u deside to sit dwn to relaxe ur body while trying to “un intoxicate” ur self in the shower it slows dwn and races ur heart together she could of blacked out and had cardiac arested and couldnt get her self outa the shower cuz of the shock it puts u thru if u have lived thru a OD and are battling diabeties or any other diesea’s
Her mother and husband has also said she was having flu symptoms just before her death. If she was taking an over the counter cold medicine and was having problems due to her diabetes it can cause a heart arrhythmia leading to her death. It is not unheard of and it does not mean she was using illegal drugs. She was a talented, lovely woman loved by her family and friends. She has never done anything to hurt anyone. The disappointing remark like Jane and a few othersmade is absolutely uncalled for. May you find some compassion in your soul someday for her family and those that loved her.
Her mom said she had diabetes issues. If she was a recently diagnosed diabetic, that explains her rapid weight loss a few years ago and her skinny look. If diabetes isnt managed properly, it WILL kill you.
had to be much more then that…
Not necessarily!
its so sad this had to happen at all… let alone b4 christmas…. but when a angle flys a new baby cry’s………. gob bless brittany murphy RIP
Anyone ever hear Brittney Murphy sing Faster Kill Pussycat? Amazing!
This is so terrible! I grew up watching her. Clueless, since the 4th grade, is still my all time fave! Hilarious girl. My prayers go to your family and friends. RIP And Jane, choke on a fat d**k
Realllllllll Classy !
