PTC targets 'Family Guy'

Tagged: ,

The Parents Television Council has filed an indecency complaint against Fox’s Family Guy with the FCC. Broadcasting & Cable reports that the PTC, which has complained about the animated show before, took issue with the most recent Dec. 13 episode, in which a stripper gave a character a lap-dance. A rep for Fox said the network has no comment at this time.

I could careless about the PTC but why is FOX ok with The Family Guy and let McFarland do just about whatever he wants but they put limits on the sexual nature of Dollhouse???

    • jmo

Agreed, but when did FOX ever have good judgement? You know for all the years FOX has been around, their most successful or memorable programs have been canceled and later brought back (Xfiles, Family Guy) or just became a hit out of sheer dumb luck. I find it funny, DGH, that of all the content Family Guy has aired, they have issue with a lap dance?!? Pu-leeze

dgh, did you mean to say “I couldn’t care less”?

  • MindB

Perhaps the PTC should extricate whatever is blocking its sphincter. I feel bad for those who were born without a sense of humor. And by the way, PTC, if your children are watching “Family Guy,” it’s your fault. Just because it’s a cartoon does not mean it’s suitable.

  • Joe

Really? Of the plethora of things to get worked up over, they choose this?

  • steve

Out of all the things you could complain about on Family Guy that’s what they picked?

  • Sara

with a rating of TV14, there’s no reason why a child should be watching this show in the first place. don’t blame the network because parents aren’t doing there job in monitoring what their kids watch. parents can see the rating at the beginning of every episode. if kids are watching it, its the parents fault.
just because a show is not appropriate for a child does not mean that it has to be taken off tv or even face a complaint, if that were the case we wouldn’t have anything but nickelodeon and the disney channel. adults still have a right to see programming that child shouldn’t be watching without fear of a ridiculous complaint.
    animation isn’t just for kids.

what’s wrong with animated lap dances – hate to see how the stiffs would react if this was live – oh wait – miley + pole = awwww

  • TJ

There’s a parental guidance message at the beginning of the show for Pete’s Sake!!! This is why I rarely watch network TV anymore. If people can’t control their children that’s simply their problem, but don’t tell me, a 36 y/o man, that I can’t watch what I want because of your kids!!

    • Jam

Well put TJ! People need to be able to control their kids and if they don’t want them to watch the show that is their issue. Don’t oppress me becasue you can’t be a good parent.

    • Deb

I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately I wasn’t watching tv with the kids when TFG came on after The Simpsons. Now my 7 year old knows why you shouldn’t go through an old man’s bathrobe pockets looking for candy as a result. It was totally my fault for not changing the channel. I guess I’m annoyed that they have an issue with a consentual lapdance but not with pedophelia. Seriously?

  • John

Some people just have WAY too much free time. Maybe if you were spending quality time with your children then you wouldn’t have to worry about what they are watching at 9:00 on a Sunday night.

  • Jonathan F.

I can understand why this show concerns them, but that particular scene over everything else?

  • Ryan

Yeah its not a family show and people should know that by now. It’s meant for adults and adults can choose to watch it if they want too or if they do have kids, to NOT put them in front of it. It isn’t the network or the show’s responsibility.

  • jools

I’d have more respect for the PTC if they went after conservative pundits who promote bigotry with their diatribes. Because really, what’s worse: promoting intolerance or an animated lap dance?

    • AnnaLee

I’m going to go ahead and guess that, based on their stances, the PTC are a large part of the conservative ideology. The statements they release and the “battles” they choose to fight are indicative of a promotion of intolerance. Along with the inability to take responsibility. If they find “Family Guy” offensive in any way, perhaps they should heed the parental warning (TV 14) and remove their child from the room. But no, that would be too easy–let’s all just play the “blame game” instead!

  • adam

The PTC is still around? Really?

  • RP

Anyone else get the feeling that someone in the PTC saw that scene while flipping channels? There’s no way they have someone watching entire episodes if that’s what they’re complaining about.

If the FCC has any sense they’ll throw this bogus complaint out.

    • Josie

PTC lives to complain so I imagine that they do have people watching all the “offensive” programing just to see if there is something they can make a complaint about. So irratating.

  • E

Agreed. They clearly state before every episode what kinds of content will be in it. It’s a show meant to be watched by adults! Not seven year-olds!

  • MikerMan

PTC can suck it. Just blowing a bunch of hot air as per usual. The children’s ACTUAL parents should be monitoring what they watch and when, not the PTC.

  • Mary

These are the same people who think that Cougar Town is one of the worst shows on television right now – all because a 40-something mom has frank sexual banter with her 17(?) year old son. Oh, and she has sex with a younger guy. Oh MY!
    Idiots.
