Tyler Perry’s mother, Willie Maxine Perry, passed away yesterday, according to a message posted on Perry’s website. No cause of death was mentioned for the 64-year-old, who was an inspiration for Perry’s Madea character. Perry told Essence Magazine in 2006 that “The nurturing part of Madea comes from my mother, who would open the doors of our home to you no matter who you were.”

OMG….My heart goes out to Tyler Perry…To lose a parent is horrible. I lost my Mom 15 yrs. ago and my Dad in March of this year. I can only say to Tyler…keep you head up and just remember the good times. I am sooooo sorry for your loss…My prayers are with you. God Bless
I am so sorry to hear about your mother. My mother died 2 years ago and we were supposed to be prepared for it – you never are. Your mother was so young but had such an inspiration on you and on a lot of others in the world, as we all loved Madea. God Bless!
