You’re welcome, box office totals. I am the champion.

    • Sara

yeah, and then you woke up.

one, its not adjusted for inflation.
two, at an unadjusted 9.6 billion, new moon hardly did it alone.

      • Anna

Yup. Transformers, Harry Potter, and Up did a lot of the work, if we’re talking domestic box office.

    • Jim

First funny pro-”New Moon” comment I’ve seen on here. Great job.

      • Nick T

That’s true. He should get a pass!

    • Jennie

      hahahahahahahahahahaha, true story.

    • Sandy

Sorry, New Moon, but have you checked boxofficemojo.com lately? You’re dropping like a rock right now, and it’s only gonna get worse this weekend. You had a big opening, but your weekend totals have been dropping by like 70% for the past two weeks, and I’ll be shocked if you manage to eek out 300 million domestically, with drops like that. I mean, you’re already only making a little over a million a day now, and you haven’t even been out for three weeks yet. Half-Blood Prince, on the other hand, was out for almost a month before it started pulling in a million per day. Sure, you helped the box office a bit. But you’re sinking pretty fast now, so don’t pat yourself on the back too hard.

      • Nerwen Aldarion

Sinking fast? That means nothing when it had an incredible opening 2 weeks! I don’t understand why people try so hard to bash Twilight, why can’t girls have their fun. It is still going to do incredibely well on DVD and has made well over 500 million worldwide already!

      • Alex

It had a good opening, but it’s not exactly leggy. Bad word of mouth/reviews and a limited audience. I agree, if it manages to crack 300 million, like so many people were predicting two weeks ago, I’ll be surprised.

      • Sandy

Nerwen, it doesn’t take much trying to find things about Twilight to bash. lol And last I checked, me writing something negative on a message board was hardly stopping girls from having their fun. It’s not like my comment is holding them hostage in their rooms and preventing them from seeing New Moon, for goodness sake. lol

      • Susan

Half Blood Prince was released during the summer, and it was released in IMAX.
Twilight has already beaten one (or two?) of the HP movies that were released during the winter.

      • Susan

I mean New Moon not Twilight.
And still, box office estimators are sure that New Moon will reach 300 mill, which is around what HP6 grossed.
This is coming from someone who loves HP.
        But these are the facts.
The real contest will come when Eclipse is released…it will have a summer released, and it was just announced that it will be released in IMAX.

    • Ama

It is so weird how delusional you Twilight fans are. Transformers 2 is the Domestic box-office Champion with over $400 million. Half Blood Prince is the worldwide box office champion. What exactly is New moon the champion of? Yeah, it had the highest box office weekend of the year but both HBP and Transformers opened on wednesday so you can’t compare New moon opening to them.

      • Brian

Plus, if you compare New Moon’s first 19 days to HBP’s first 19 days, New Moon is only about a million ahead of HBP now, and that number’s been dropping pretty steadily for the past few days or so. I doubt it’ll surpass it, if it keeps this up.

      • Mark

Like Susan said above, the fact that New Moon was released in the winter, and not released in IMAX, and is contending with HP6 which had both of those advantages…is definitely impressive.

      • @ Mark

It opened in the winter with less competition so the winter disadvantage is crap. Susan was comparing movies without adjusting for inflation so she clearly does not know what she is talking about. New Moon has done well and that is a fact but let’s not pretend it is the biggest movie of the year, because it is not.

      • Ama

The only thing twilight has going for it is the devoted fans, and as they say empty barrels make the most noise.

      • Celia

*it made almost a billion of that by itself.

    • Celia

Hollywood can thank Harry Potter for that. I made almost one billion of that by itself.

  • Mandy

I wonder which movies were the biggest. I’m guessing Transformers, Star Trek and Twilight.

    • Phil

      Harry Potter.

  • WoW

    oh my gosh that’s cool!

  • Merry

Thanks clearly go to Up, Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and (as much as it pains me to admit it) New Moon. There were just a ton of blockbusters with set fanbases (other than Up) that really helped the box office.

    • Alex

      Also The Hangover.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Top Five biggest box offices this year…Star Trek, Transformers, New Moon, Harry Potter and Up. That’s my prediction at least.

    • Diane

Replace New Moon with The Hangover, and that’s pretty much it at this point, though not in that order.

      • michelle

check your stats no one i know went to see ” the hangover” dont think that just because you dont love new moon means that the movie didn’t recieve good money

      • Reese

Maybe no one you knew saw “The Hangover” because it was rated R.

      • Diane

Michelle, pull your head out of your a**. I’m getting my “stats” from boxofficemojo. Also, I’m not sure why you say I don’t like New Moon. I didn’t even say anything bad about it. Simmer down. lol

    • Box office numbers

      1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – $402,111,870
      2 HBP – $301,949,939
      3 Up – $293,004,164
      4 The Hangover – $277,288,934
      5 Star Trek – $257,730,019
      New Moon – $257,469,075(and counting)

      • JackBauerEnthusiast!

        Top 5 WORLDWIDE:

        1.HBP…..$929,350,143
        2.Ice Age 3….$883,718,521
        3.Transformers 2….$834,969,807
        4.2012….$669,404,668
        5.New Moon….$578,925,337

  • Sean

Sandy, Harry Potter only managed 301 million domestically. Stop saying New Moon is dropping like a rock when it is going to surpass Harry Potter by the end of its run. It will maintain solid numbers throughout the holidays until New Years then its run will be over. But it will beat Harry Potter.

    • Sandy

Only 301 million? You say that like it’s nothing. lol Only two movies have managed to make 300 million or more this year, and the other was Transformers. As for whether or not New Moon will surpass HP domestically, time will tell. But if it keeps dropping by 60-70% every weekend, I doubt it’ll make it. Plus, last weekend was the only weekend left where it didn’t really have a lot of competition. There are some big movies coming out over the next month.

    • Susan

Again, HP was released during the summer and in IMAX.
New Moon will surpass a few of the HP winter releases.
Like I said above, the real contest will come when Eclipse is released, since it will have a summer release, and will be released in IMAX.
Also, most box office predictors estimate that New Moon will make over 300 mill

      • JackBauerEnthusiast!

Does it really f**kin matter?! Gosh I’m sick of this. People act like those are the only two movies that came out this year. Who gives a crap which one makes more. Regardless of how much you argue…twilight WON’T make more because Harry Potter has made 930 million, who gives a crap about the domestic. Stop arguing about pointless crap. I’m happy the Box Office is doing so well…it’s too bad most of that money isn’t going towards GOOD films: Transformers 2, twilight, and 2012 are evidence of that.

  • MM

Sandra Bullock also had two o her biggest hits this year

  • tjhooker

Nothing brings in the money like young boys in jean shorts

  • Sean

All I’m saying is that people need to stop finding every possible way to destroy the Twilight franchise. I’m not a super fan by any means but I understand the appeal. The box office numbers the movie is pulling in are impressive and people should just admit it and stop trying to bring it down.

  • CVisca

No one in Holly wood can complain about their $$

  • doug

I hate when people misuse decimals. 9.682 billion compared to 9.68 billion. 9.68 could be any number between 9.676 and 9.684. Please keep your numbers consistent.
