Hunger director Steve McQueen will direct Fela, a feature film about African musician/activist Fela Kuti, Variety reports. McQueen, who is also a visual artist, will write the script with Biyi Bandele — based on Michael Veal’s book Fela: The Life and Times of an African Musical Icon. Kuti is also the subject of new Broadway musical Fela!, although the Focus Features film isn’t connected to the show.
