Joel Tenenbaum, a graduate student at Boston University who must pay four record labels $675,000 in damages for downloading 30 songs online, has been ordered by a U.S. District Court judge to destroy his illegal music files, according to the Associated Press. In July, a federal jury in Boston ordered Tenenbaum to pay damages to the record companies for copyright violation. In addition to destroying his music files, Tenenbaum was ordered to refrain from any further illegal downloading.

So is Limewire illegal or not?!
Ha ha! Didn’t want to pay Itunes $30 now you have to pay $675K. Too funny.
That’s so ridiculous.
How on earth are they justifying $675,000 in damages for just 30 songs?
There could be punitive damages included in that.
The unluckiest dude ever.
This is ridiculous! Theft of $30 dollars worth of anything else would never warrant such a high fine/punishment.
No wonder we download illegally! The record companies are just greedy.
God bless Canada for not making music downloads illegal…yet
How the hell can this verdict possibly happen and remain intact? Has there been an appeal yet?
