ABC confirms that Charlie Gibson will be stepping down from his post at World News Dec. 18. Executive producer Jon Banner wrote the following on his “World Newser” blog: “We’ve known this day was coming. Charlie first told us of his desire to retire in early September. As he said then, it’s the right time for him and his amazing family.” Banner also wrote that Gibson’s final week on air will focus on some of the anchor’s best work over the past three decades. In a low-key switch-over, Diane Sawyer will begin anchoring the program Dec. 21.

I THINK DIANE SAYWER WILL BE AWFUL AS A REPLACEMENT. SHE SHOULD STICK WITH GMA!!!!
I’ll miss Mr. Gibson. I really enjoyed him on GMA, and that show hasn’t been the same without him. He was always enjoyable to watch – the news felt real and intelligent with him.
Looking forward to seeing what Diane does. Do not like Charlie Gibson at all. Don’t like his interviews, lack of substance recently. Years ago – I really liked him.
I’ll miss you, Mr. Gibson, and I concur with JS that Diane Sawyer – however talented – is NOT a good replacement.
Love Charlie Gibson. I also loved the group with Diane,Robin,Sam & Chris.. They are the best group together..I hope I will enjoy this new group but it is not the same feel so far. But Charlie is the BEST..Amazing..respectful..we need men like him in our future.
