At the ceremony for the Latin Grammys last night in Las Vegas, the Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 won five awards including album and record of the year. Among the other winners were Claudia Brant, Luis Fonsi, and G. Reuben for song of the year “AquĆ Estoy Yo” and Alexander Acha for Best New Artist.

Cartoon Network orders two live-action series
Cartoon Network is moving into live-action series with orders for two new titles: Tower Prep and Unnatural History, according to Variety. Tower Prep is about a rebellious teen (Drew Van Acker) who goes to a mysterious prep school. Unnatural History is about two cousins who find mysteries at the National Museum of Natural History. Both will start shooting in January. Lost‘s Paul Dini wrote the pilot for Tower Prep and will executive produce; Terry McDonough of Breaking Bad directs. For Unnatural History, Mike Werb (Face/Off) wrote the pilot and Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers) directs.
Audie Murphy biopic planned
Producers Arthur E. Friedman and Steven Jay Rubin are developing a biopic of Audie Murphy, Variety reports. They have acquired the rights to Don Graham’s biography No Name on the Bullet. Murphy was one of America’s youngest soldiers to see combat. He later starred as himself in To Hell and Back and also starred in other films including The Red Badge of Courage, The Quiet American and A Time for Dying. His son Terry Murphy is also on board for the project.
Hideo Nakata to direct 'Voice From the Stone'
Director Hideo Nakata (The Ring) will direct supernatural thriller Voice From the Stone, Variety reports. The film, based on the Italian novel of the same name, is about a psychologist who becomes inhabited by the spirit of her young patient’s dead mother.
Bradley Cooper comes on board for thriller 'Dark Fields'
Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) has come on board to star in suspense thriller Dark Fields, Variety reports. Neil Burger (The Illusionist) will direct. The story follows a New York writer who is given a pill that can make him rich and powerful, but with mysterious consequences.
Sacha Baron Cohen sets up production company
Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Bruno) has created his first production company, Four by Two Films, Variety reports. The company is already planning a Columbia Pictures untitled project that Baron Cohen will star in and co-write. With Universal, Four by Two is working on Accidentes, in which Baron Cohen will play a Latino ambulance-chasing lawyer who becomes a hero to L.A.’s working class.
Beyonce takes home three MTV Europe Music Awards
Beyonce was the big winner at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards, held tonight at the O2 Arena in Berlin. The pop star took home prizes for Best Female, Best Song (“Halo”), and Best Video (“Single Ladies”). Other winners included Jay-Z for Best Urban, Eminem for Best Male, and Lady Gaga for Best New Act. U2, who performed “Sunday Bloody Sunday” at the Brandenburg Gate as part of the show’s commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, were honored as Best Live Act.
