According to The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy has bought five episodes of Outer Space Astronauts, a half-hour futuristic comedy series that integrates live-action and animation (both 2-D and 3-D) into the story of eight soldiers on a spaceship. The show, created by Russell Barrett and exec produced by David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees), will debut Dec. 8.

Jason Priestly to produce drug smuggling drama
According to Variety, Jason Priestley has optioned the movie rights to the recent Rolling Stone article “Death of a Freerider,” which recounts the story of a 22-year-old mountain biker who smuggled millions of dollars worth of marijuana across the U.S.-Canada border. Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev of Nomadic Pictures are also producing. Priestly has spent the last decade building his directing résumé with credits on Secret Life of the American Teenager and the CW’s rebooted 90210.
Mike Tyson allegedly hits photographer
Champion boxer Mike Tyson, 43, allegedly punched a photographer who took his picture in Los Angeles International Airport yesterday, reports People. Tyson was booked by the LAPD with $20,000 bail and released that evening. The photographer was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for a cut on his forehead. It’s not yet known if the incident violates the terms of the three-year probation sentence that Tyson received in Arizona in November 2007 after being convicted of D.U.I. and drug possession.
'Mad Men' writer takes on 'Fright Night' remake
Mad Men writer-producer Marti Noxon will write DreamWorks’ revamp of 1985′s Fright Night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Noxon previously wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
Harvey Keitel joins cast of 'Little Fockers'
Harvey Keitel has joined the cast of Little Fockers, The Hollywood Reporter writes. The Meet the Fockers sequel also welcomes Jessica Alba and Laura Dern in addition to regulars Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Owen Wilson. Keitel will play a contracter hired by Stiller’s character.
Martha Plimpton to star in Fox comedy pilot
Lucas Neff, Martha Plimpton and Olesya Rulin will star in Fox’s comedy pilot Keep Hope Alive, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The quirky family comedy, from My Name Is Earl creator Greg Garcia, is about a young man raising his baby after the baby’s mother ends up on death row.
Jeffrey Tambor joins David Tennant pilot
Arrested Development veteran Jeffrey Tambor has come on board to co-star opposite David Tennant in NBC’s pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tambor will play Tennant’s character’s psychiatrist, who suffers from anxiety himself and also starts an affair with his patient’s mother.
Ray Bradbury plans six-hour miniseries
Ray Bradbury is planning a miniseries based on six of his short stories, Variety reports. The Bradbury Chronicles — from White Oak Films — is planned as a six-hour event.
David Koepp to direct 'Premium Rush'
David Koepp (Ghost Town) will next direct action film Premium Rush for Columbia Pictures, Variety reports. Koepp wrote the screenplay with John Kamps. The story follows a twentysomething bike messenger who picks up an envelope that a dirty cop wants.
AEG Live, Action 3D kick off concert films with Dave Matthews
AEG Live and Action 3D will partner on a series of filmed concerts to be shot on HD 3D and released theatrically in 3D for one-week engagements, Variety reports. The first film, due Dec. 11, will be from the Dave Matthews Band, shot at the Austin City Limits festival in October. The film will also feature Ben Harper, Relentless7 and Gogol Bordello. The companies have already shot footage from 56 artists at five festivals, with a goal of reaching 150 artists in 2010.
