Anna Faris is in talks to star in Robin Williams romantic comedy Wedding Banned as the funnyman’s daughter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Faris would play a woman kidnapped by her parents on her wedding day. They hope to stop her from making the same mistakes they did, but rekindle their own romance in the process of running from the police and the groom. The mother has yet to be cast.
'Remote Control' host Ken Ober dies
The New York Times is reporting that comedian Ken Ober, best known as the host of MTV’s Remote Control, died this weekend of unknown causes, although he had been complaining of flu-like symptoms. He was 52. Ober began hosting Remote Control in 1987, marking MTV’s first foray into original, non-music-video programming. He had more recently been a producer on Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia and CBS sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Janet Jackson blames Dr. Conrad Murray for Michael Jackson's death
In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts set to air Wednesday at 10pm, Janet Jackson says that she blames Dr. Conrad Murray for the death of her brother, Michael. “He was the one that was administering,” Jackson tells Roberts. “I think he is responsible.” Jackson also says that she’s still continuing to cope with Michael’s passing. “It’s been a tough year,” she says. “You have your days where it’s just really—it’s hard to believe. And a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about him.”
'Just Shoot Me' star George Segal joins new TV Land sitcom
Just Shoot Me‘s George Segal has joined the cast of Retired at 35, a new sitcom pilot for TV Land. According to a press release issued by the network, Segal will play the father of a young hotshot who opts to join him in a Florida retirement home.
'My Little Pony' returning to TV
A new TV studio formed by toymaking giant Hasbro is planning a new TV series based on the My Little Pony line, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show could be one of the first on a new cable channel started by Hasbro and Discovery.
Tyler Perry's 'Meet the Browns' heading to syndication
Tyler Perry’s sitcom Meet the Browns, which currently airs on TBS, has been cleared for broadcast syndication a mere 15 months after its cable debut. According to Variety, distributor Debmar-Mercury has deals in place with “stations covering 70 percent of U.S. TV households, including Fox-owned stations in New York, Dallas, Houston and Washington, D.C.” Browns will air Monday–Fridays on those stations starting in September.
George Strait plans 'Pure Country' sequel
Country singer George Strait will star in a second Pure Country film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director Chris Cain will return for A Pure Country Gift, which he has co-written with his actor son Dean Cain (Lois & Clark). While the original 1992 Pure Country focused on a character played by Strait, this one is about a younger singer (Katrina Elam) who was given the gift of talent by three angels as a child.
