According to Variety, Keanu Reeves is set to star in the samurai swordsman-centric epic 47 Ronin. First-time director Carl Eric Rinsch — who nearly got a gig directing the Aliens prequel until Ridley Scott returned to the franchise — is currently in talks to direct. The film — released by Universal — will tell the story of a group of samurai avenging the death of their master.

Stuart Townsend signs on to 'Thor'
Actors Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano have signed on to star in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. According to Variety, the trio will play Warrior’s Three, a group of Asgardian adventurers who fight with the Norse hero. Thor — which also stars Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins — will be in theaters on May 20, 2011.
Broadway's 'Oleanna' ending its run
In a press release, producer Jeffrey Finn announced that David Mamet’s drama Oleanna would close following its 14-week-run on Broadway. The play, which stars Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, is directed by Doubt‘s Doug Hughes. Oleanna‘s final performance is scheduled for Jan. 3, 2010. “We’ve had great audiences since September, and as our sales are concentrated through the holidays, January feels like the right time to end,” Finn says in the release. “Announcing this now still allows audiences seven weeks to experience Oleanna.” The drama, which chronicles a power struggle between a professor and student, began previews this year on Sept. 29.
'Dancing' pro Julianne Hough will not return for season 10
Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough will not return to the ballroom in March for ABC’s reality series, reports People. At last night’s Los Angeles premiere of New Moon, Hough told Ryan Seacrest she would not be back for season 10, but did not deny the possibility of participating in future seasons.
Paparazzo testifies in Sarah Jessica Parker-Matthew Broderick case
A New York paparazzo testified Tuesday in the trial against Barry Carpenter, an Ohio police chief who allegedly attempted to sell ultrasound photos belonging to Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate. The paparazzo, Justin Steffman, claims Carpenter told him he had access to the photos. Police Chief Chad Dojack — who will be on trial in January — is also accused of attempting to sell the pics.
Ryan Seacrest stalker slapped with restraining order
A man accused of stalking Ryan Seacrest has been slapped with a restraining order by a Los Angeles judge. According to the order, Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr., must stay 100 yards away from Seacrest at all times. Uzomah—who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges after a run-in with Seacrest’s bodyguard—is currently in a Los Angeles jail.
MTV Networks acquires broadcast rights to Michael Jackson's 'This Is It'
MTV Networks has acquired the exclusive U.S. TV rights to Michael Jackson’s posthumous hit concert film This Is It. It will be available for broadcast starting in 2011 in a six-year deal that will allow for airing on all MTV networks, including MTV, VH1, and BET. The film will hit DVD in early 2010.

Sources: Oprah to launch Nate Berkus show next year
Following on the success of Dr. Oz’s talk show, Sony Pictures Television and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions are looking to launch a daytime series for Oprah favorite Nate Berkus in fall 2010, sources told Broadcasting & Cable. The heartthrob design expert has been appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show since 2001 and hosts his own show on her satellite radio channel. He also anchored her 2008 reality show on ABC, Oprah’s Big Give.
Cindy Crawford's attempted blackmailer turns self in to police
Edis Kayalar, 26, who tried to blackmail supermodel Cindy Crawford for $100,000 walked into a German police station and turned himself in, authorities there told the Associated Press. He’s charged with one count of extortion in the United States and could face up to two years in prison if convicted. Kayalar is accused of threatening to release a photo of Crawford’s daughter bound to a chair and gagged at age 7, which the girl says a former nanny took as part of a “cops and robbers” game. Kayalar is set to appear before a judge today.
