TNT will not order a third season of its legal drama Raising the Bar, the network confirms to EW. Starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and centering on a group of New York City lawyers who went to law school together, the series averaged 4 million viewers in season 2, which represented an increase from its season 1 average, but was well below its season 2 lead-in, The Closer ( 8.1 million viewers). “Everyone at TNT had a great experience working on Raising the Bar with Steven Bochco and the rest of the show’s terrific cast and crew,” the network said in a statement. “We’re proud of the series and appreciate the efforts of all of the creative people who were involved. Unfortunately, ratings for Raising the Bar‘s second season did not reach the levels required for TNT to renew the series.” The show’s three remaining episodes are expected to air in 2010. (E! Online first reported the news.)

Well damn. Another summer show bites the dust. I really liked it.
please bring back raising the bar….me and wife loved it so much…
I agree…really enjoyed the show and the cases. Too bad they pulled the plug on it.
I had a bit of a hard time getting into season one but season two was awesome. such a disappointment it won’t be coming back!
I didn’t care for it but my husband loves this show-so what are they going to replace it with…. a reality show of some type.
TNT doesn’t do reality.
knock on wood.
Probably Southland.
TNT did pickup Southland, but there’s room on their schedule for Raising the Bar. I love Bochco’s shows and really enjoyed this show. Even tho I had to deal w/MarkPaul Gosselar’s horrible hair style 1st season! And Raising the Bar is certainly better than Leverage!
I should just stop watching TV altogether. Nothing I like sticks around.
agreed
that is absolutely correct. The tv channels should hire me, because if I like and won’t miss a program, guess what ,,,,, OFF it goes into distant rerun history.
I know what you mean. “Monk” is gone, now “Raising the Bar”. pretty soon all that will air will be some contrived reality tv show. so said for well-written dramas. they should have given them another chance and promote it; “The Closer” has been on much longer so it’s understandable the numbers would be higher. UGH!!!!!
WTF…can another station pick it up?And why bother with 3 episodes?
I can’t believe the ratings declined in the second season. We
need to get back to comedy and dramas and screw all these freakin reality shows. Did any notice the crap that is on VH1, and yet that crap keeps gettin re-newed.
I agree with everyone above. This was a very good show, much like the Practice from years ago but with expansion into the D. A.s office as well. It would be nice for another network to pick it up. I would love to see it back.
Don’t insult the Practice. Mark Paul G. couldn’t hold Dylan McDermott’s jock. This show was painfully boring, poorly acted and the writing was an utter snoozefest.
Speaking of McDermott I’m still waiting with berated breath on Dark Blue’s fate. Does anyone know?
Yes, whatever would we do without McDermott’s peculiar style of acting, which the rest of us know as “whispering”.
My mother told me that whenever I felt like cussing, I should just say “Fah.crying.out.loud!” I just said that. This was a very good show. I loved the judges on the show and am going to miss them. I also think Gloria Rueben (sp) is HOT!!!
The cast and writing were excellent on Raising the Bar. We really looked forward to this show a lot. It deserves to be on tv. There aren’t many shows we’d say that about right now. How many reality shows do we need????
As a Public Defender, this show brought up the issues of mercy and compassion and the ethical dilemmas we face everyday and did it intelligently. It was real! Except maybe we are a little less goodlooking and more careworn than the show depicted.
Young folks would rather watch little grainy Godawful home videos and other crap on YouTube all day (while they text and talk on the phone and e-mail at the same time) than sit down and actually pay attention to 45 minutes of a well-constructed, well acted drama – it’s way beyond their attention spans . . . and yet we let them vote and drive cars. I never cease to be amazed!!!
You’re calling teens immature because they don’t watch enough TV?
Young people (really?) don’t watch Raising the Bar and other forms of television and therefore voting rights should be restricted…good lord. Perhaps old people shouldn’t be allowed to vote as their logic seems to become tainted in their golden years.
Oh boo hooo, all these crime shows are just new versions of ‘Murder She Wrote’, where bad guys get put in jail in 45 mins. Far from the real world.
Quit complaining and read a book.
@Tomm, you have obviously never seen this show because it’s nothing close to what you attempted to describe. Way to mouth off though without knowing what you’re talking about. You’re cool.
shame, I enjoyed watching the show, another great show gone
I didn’t really care for the show but I’ve noticed this is the 2nd or 3rd show they’ve canceled that have had good ratings. Is it possible that TNT might be going under since all they play is re-runs and the Closer? I couldn’t believe they were going to cancel Saving Grace too. Just my opinion but it looks like TNT is losing it.
heather I agree with you. It does seem like they are loosing their minds. I really loved the show and I really got into it from the jump. And I really don’t say that often. Its a shame it has to go.
You have to be kidding me! This was one of my favorite shows. Sigh…
Sigh…they giveth and they taketh away…At least we now have Southland to look forward to…
maybe now Mark-Paul can cut his hair
He already had.
why the hate on Mark-Paul’s hair? I didn’t think it was “that” bad!!! Apparently too many others did, since it was cut. Not an improvement as far as I’m concerned.
