U.S. distribution rights for Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli’s next film have gone to Paramount Pictures, Variety reports. Area 51 is an aliens-related film using the same “found footage” format as Paranormal Activity, though it had a higher budget due to that film’s success. Shooting finished in early November, with a 2010 release expected.

I hope they don’t use the same marketing gimmick they used on Paranormal Activity. By the time I got to see PA, it had been built up so much I couldn’t help but be disappointed. It was a quality well made film with a good story but wasn’t scary anymore by the time I saw it.
I hope it bombs if it is cashing in on same stupid format and awful budget/story?
If AREA 51 is anything like PA then I will be first in line. Davidsask? Go back to humping your grandmother.
Maybe now the Hollywood studios are willing to take chances on lower budget films as opposed to the big budget garbage they are making these days…
