Security experts in Switzerland have begun to prepare Roman Polanski’s chalet in the Alps for the Chinatown director’s house arrest, which may begin as soon as Monday, the Associated Press is reporting. Polanski has been in Swiss custody for the past two months while authorities there consider extraditing him to the U.S. The director fled America in 1978 after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.
UPDATE: Reuters reports that the French envoy preparing the house say Polanski might not be released for a few days.

i dont get it, why dont they extradite him and be done with it, thats just crazy
There’s a legal process that takes about 3 months to complete extradition. He should-in theory-be in the California sometime in January.
Your absolutely right let’s get him get extradited back to the U.S. and get on with his life.
He should be killed, doesnt deserve to live.
I hate him too, but he didn’t do anything to deserve that level of punishment. He just needs to serve the time for the crime he committed.
I hope that bastard gets butt raped in prison. And I can’t believe the a holes that are defending him.
Polanski should never be sent back to the U.S.! Too often the Americans accuse and the condemn the innocent! How about sending some Senators to prison!
What do senators have to do with a man convicted of raping and drugging a young girl. It’s about time he served his time. Futhermore he should be rotting in jail not relaxing in a Swiss chalet.
Frank, Polanski pled guilty to a crime and then skipped out before sentencing. By his own admission, he is not innocent of the crime. No one is condemning an innocent person; we are just asking that an admitted guilty person serve his sentence.
Leave Polanski alone! Who do the Americans think they are? Send some Senator to prision!
Polanski pled guilty to a crime, and should serve his sentence. Americans think that people should not be allowed to get away with a crime just because they are rich and famous. Obviously, you believe that Polanski should be allowed to go free, even though he admitted he drugged and raped a child. And you have the nerve to comment about Americans?
If any senators have committed crimes, then they should have charges brought against them. Do you have any evidence of a crime committed by a senator? If so, you should bring it to the authorities. If not, then stop bringing up Senators when the topic is Roman Polanski, a man who admitted under oath that he raped a child.
too long Roman managed to avoid serving some justice for what he did like him or not he still has legal rights to fairness and justice which means going through the legal system. problem is the maixum once he is back in the u.s in a u.s cell will be two years he will serve due to the stature of limitations.
demoncat,
The statute of limitations doesn’t apply to Polanski’s case. The statute refers to the fact that charges must be initiated within a certain proscribed time period after the crime. Polanski had charges brought against him for the rape within the proscribed time. Polanski pled guilty to one of the charges, and the others were to be withdrawn at sentencing. But, of course, he fled before sentencing. So he currently has one conviction, and several pending charges. He most likely will also be charged with flight.
