For the first time in its history, Fox is expected to win the November sweeps. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a high-profile World Series and a consistent lineup of well-regarded shows, like House and Glee, will propel Fox to an easy victory over the other four networks. Fox’s ratings were up 20% from its figures last November, making it the only network with any year-to-year gain. ABC, which is expected to place second, would come out on top if you excluded sports programming.

congrats to Fox, Glee is awesome
The last sentence is the most importamt one. Without the World Series, FOX would not have won. I understand House is well regarded. I personally don’t know anyone that watches Glee, so I don’t understand how a show that comes in 4th place each week in its time slot is considered a solid show.
The Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, and Detroit Lions are solid football teams.
Nice
Glee is considered a solid show because it makes its money off of revenue other than just ad sales and such. It consistently dominates itunes single song sales. Much like Gossip Girl is considered a hit due to DVR ratings and online viewings. We no longer live in an era that has Nielsens being the final say on what is or isnt a hit. (Thank god for that!)
I have no idea who buys what on itunes, so I have no doubt that is correct, but the article was about Nov sweeps, which I think is directly related to the Nielsons. But I do have a question if any one can answer, do advertisers care about DVR ratings? I tend to watch everything off DVR and very rarely watch a commercial. Since I assume most people are the same way why would advertisers care about DVR ratings.
Glee actually comes in third place consistently, and has a very solid 18-49 demo rating that the advertisers go crazy for. Not to mention the hit CD, iTunes sales, etc that FOX makes tons of money from.
Criminal Minds wins every week, I also think it loses to the ABC comedies and the Biggest Loser.
Coming in one place consistently over and over is called “solid”. . .its a solid 4th place show. How can you not understand that concept?
Take a midol.
Wow, that’s a retro comment ala Andrew Dice Clay.
4th place out of 5 is consistent but I don’t think it is sold.
I guess my idea of solid would be something that beats more shows then it loses to.
This article just made me realize how little network television i watch anymore. I only watch a few shows off each network and the rest is cable programming.
IMO, ABC seems to be the only network that broadcasts quality programs, such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, FlashForward, Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, and Pushing Daisies (although it was canceled). ABC deserves to win the Nov. sweep.
It canceled Pushing Daisies and didn’t air Lost during sweeps. How does it deserve to win?
I thought CBS was always the leader with all it’s crime investigation dramas and comedies.
ABC is a garbage network. Desperate Housewives, PLEASE. Yes, Modern Family is good, but that is it. DWTS, sorry, I am under 70 years old. CBS still has the best lineup hands down!
when i think of CBS, i think of CSI, NCIS, and thats about it. With ABC, at least you have a mix of programing
i’m confused…isn’t cbs almost always #1? i mean, not that i care–the only shows on the network that remotely interest me are big bang theory and survivor–but still.
ABC has the best quality programming? Please, they just proved that’s not true with the AMA’s. Oh wait! they pulled Adam off of GMA because they didn’t know about his act before it aired on Sunday! Not only that but you don’t win the sweeps because of “quality” you win it because of numbers plain and simple. Regardless of sports or not, Fox won.
It looks like the Great Debate is between ABC & CBS, with FOX in 3rd (without sports). At least we all agree that NBC isn’t even in the running and would collapse without its Thursday night comedies –which are probably still beaten by the other 3 on that night.
Fox deserves the win just for showing Bones. The November episodes have been some of the best of the series!
I totally agree with you.
Why are people in this blog fighting over this? It means nothing, FOX wins nothing. What are you going to start arguing over next, which network has the best logo?
NBC. The Peacock Rules!!
CBS totally has the coolest logo. The peacock? Weak. ABC in a circle? Boring. Fox? Lame. CBS and the eyeball all the way!
FOX’s spartan and clean logo blows chunks all over the NBC’s fay peacock. Ohhhhhh Yeaaahhh, Kool Aid!
