Jury convicts Ohio police chief in Sarah Jessica Parker-Matthew Broderick surrogacy case

A police chief in eastern Ohio has been convicted of three felony charges in a break-in at the home of a woman who carried twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Prosecutors had argued that Chief Barry Carpenter broke into Michelle Ross’ home in May and tried to sell items related to her surrogate pregnancy, including ultrasound pictures and a plaster cast of her belly, to paparazzi. Carpenter, who claimed he saw Ross’ basement door left open while on a routine patrol, was acquitted on charges of burglary but was found guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office, and tampering with evidence. Carpenter, who could not be reached for immediate comment, will be sentenced Dec. 30 and faces up to 10 years in jail.
