Hamish Hamilton has been tapped to direct the 82nd Academy Awards telecast on March 7, show producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman announced today. Hamilton—who is also helming the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show on Feb. 7—has directed the MTV Video Music Awards multiple times, as well as live performances by artists such as U2, Neil Diamond, Josh Groban, and Christina Aguilera.

I don’t know much about his other work, but the U2 DVDs Hamilton directed are horrible; the worst of U2’s concert DVDs, by far. His directing is targeted toward people with short attemtion spans. No shot lasts longer than four seconds.
