Categories: Movie Biz, Movies, News

According to Variety, Keanu Reeves is set to star in the samurai swordsman-centric epic 47 Ronin. First-time director Carl Eric Rinsch — who nearly got a gig directing the Aliens prequel until Ridley Scott returned to the franchise — is currently in talks to direct. The film — released by Universal — will tell the story of a group of samurai avenging the death of their master.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee
      Thumbsucker
The Last Time I Committed Suicide

Exactly – and he was really good in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee by the way. Saw it at a film festival.

Couldn’t they find a Japanese actor to play the Japanese role?!?! Maybe it’s a bit of a cliche since he starred in The Last Samurai, but wouldn’t Ken Watanabe be more appropriate for this role? He was terrific in Letters From Iwo Jima.

Because who doesn’t think “Keanu Reeves” when they hear the word “samurai”?

Why are they remaking Mizoguchi, anyway?

With his long hair and talent for marshal arts, talent for languages, and beautiful Eurasian looks, now why is it he shouldn’t do this role??? He is only getting more interesting with time. I want to see him as a blazing Samurai!

      I like your style!

I think Keanu is hitting a certain new stride – Cowboy Bebop is upcoming, now this cool role. He will defy and redine expectations as he ages and I am all for it. Go Keanu! Can’t wait for Bebop.

      (I mean redefine heh heh)

I guess we’ll be seeing more of that trademark dumbfounded look he gives as his attempt at being serious.

I’m sure that’s what some people will see. There are many others who will see a hard-working decent actor who will never live down “Bill and Ted” despite all the fine reviews he has received.
