The last time that Colin Quinn was EVER funny was when he played “The Lion” on SNL back in 1996.
But nevermind him. Ken Ober was the man. He made a game show for teens and twenty year olds that was fun and innovating. I remember having the Remote Control game show for my computer! Kenny was like no ordinary kid. He was a hero to us who grew up in the late eighties. RIP Mr. Ober
I loved that show, and back then I loved MTV, too. That was in the day when they were relevant, still played music videos most of the time, and I got to see a different REO Speedwagon video 4 times a day! Now MTV is pure trash.
My sympathies to Mr. Ober’s family. Yet another face from the grand days of the 80s lost to us all.
I was a contestant on Remote Control and about a year after my episode aired I saw Ken Ober perform at a Comedy Club. He spent a good 15-20 minutes talking with my friend and I after his show. He could have just shrugged us off, but he was a very genuine person. I’m very saddened that a “celebrity” I had met has passed. Ken Ober was a really nice guy and was only 52 at the time of his passing. It certainly puts another nail in the coffin of my youth.
Too young, too soon. Very sad. Always loved Remote Control.
Wow, it is too bad, he was unpretentious and better than most Reality Hosts today. Also, I thought he was younger, like 44.
loved Remote Control and thought Ken was great. RIP Mr. Ober
I like to reiterate the previous commenter’s note–I have no clue who the heck Ken Ober is, and he’s in my age demographic. But I do know that the star of one of the greatest cult movies ever made (and a cameo in another of the best) Edward Woodward, has yet to have been written about on EW’s pages. If you can’t follow up on this, why should I subscribe to your magazine?
That show really launched Colin Quinn’s career. You couldn’t miss his dry voice when he was announcing the prizes the contestants won. But back to Ken Ober, he was a fun host. I will miss him. And it was a game show, not the floods of reality shows that started MTV’s non-music video programming. They need to go through the vaults and old tapes and quickly put it on DVD of the best shows–they did about 40 or 50 shows in 2 years between 1987 and 1989 before they went back to showing their marathons of videos. People still remember that show! Love the catchy, funky theme song the keyboardist played during the show.
I’m extremely inspired together with your writing talents as neatly as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway stay up the excellent quality writing, it’s uncommon to look a nice weblog like this one nowadays..
A person essentially lend a hand to make critically articles I would state. That is the very first time I frequented your web page and thus far? I amazed with the research you made to create this particular submit amazing. Excellent process!
