'Twilight' director on Pattison/Stewart romance: 'It didn't happen on the first movie'

Categories: Movies, News

In an interview with Time, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke commented on the rumored relationship between stars Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson—a subject the young actors have refused to speak about publicly. “In terms of what Kristen told me directly, it didn’t happen on the first movie,” said Hardwick. “Nothing crossed the line while on the first film. I think it took a long time for Kristen to realize, O.K., I’ve got to give this a go and really try to be with this person.” Earlier this month, Stewart explained her silence on the matter to EW, saying, “I probably would’ve answered it if people hadn’t made such a big deal about it… But I’m not going to give the fiending an answer.”

Are we sure she isn’t just bitter about being dumped from the franchise?

    • Jilly

Dunno, but it was uncool of Catherine to talk about Rob and Kristen.

  • Ashley

Cathy the Cougar only speaks about Rob and Kristen lately. Apparently she doesnt care that they don’t want to talk about it… And yes, she needs to move on.

    • Dawn

She just wants New Moon to do well so more people will take interest in the franchise and go watch the first movie. She just sees more royalties if she plays up Rob and Kristen’s relationship. Though I don’t she is different than anyone else that works on the franchise and works for Kristen and Rob. They all play up to the media about the Rob and Kristen beast that has taken over the entertainment industry.

  • OMG!!!

More Twilight news!!! This is, like, so totally awesome! Thanks Teen Beat!

    • Deb

      This comment made my day.

    • Peter

This made me laugh outloud. Love it.

  • TJ

Seriously, leave this crap to Us or People. Really, you’ve gone WAY overboard with the Twilight stuff and now you’re delving into things that we really don’t care about.

    • Deb

      LOL Thank you.

  • Dawn

This director should be ashamed of herself. Using the whatever Kristen may or may not have going on in their personal lives to sell the franchise.

And people wonder why people hate Twilight and everyone involved. This is part of the reason.

    • Dawn

That should be what Kristen and Rob may have or may not have.

You know, if you guys want to post ad infinitum about trailers, clips, interviews, Nordstrom lines, etc. that’s one thing. But this is dangerously skirting tabloid trash territory. The way Hardwicke said she warned Pattinson on Stewart’s age makes him look like a cradle robber, and for Hardwicke to mention it publicly at all is pretty tacky.
Leave the “Robsten” crap in the Enquirer, Us Weekly and Tiger Beat where it belongs, please.

  • What the…?

You didn’t have enough Twilight crap to shill, now you have to give a platform to Catherine Hardwicke’s tabloid hearsay? Come on, EW, you’re better than this.

    • Correction:

EW USED to be better than this.

      • Frank Anderson

        So true!

I am understand covering the movies, they are pretty big, but this drivel is so sad to see in EW.

Can we at least get coverage on this series that is relevant to them as an artistic endeavor?

      • “Can we at least get coverage on this series that is relevant to them as an artistic endeavor?”
You’d have to consider them an artistic endeavor first! :P

  • ian g

when can i expect a perez hilton on entertainment weekly? :(

    • Judy

If Perez Hilton joins EW then you can expect me to bury all my past issues and hold a funeral.

    • Frank Anderson

Not funny, dude. Don’t even joke about that… it might get them thinking.

  • don

More ‘Twilight’ junk news?!! Since when did EW go from a legit entertainment magazine, to a crappy teen news rag?

  • Dinah

Wow!! This is an article worth reading!Im a twilight fan but even i think this is a waste of space.

  • Tom Burgos

Whether we like TWILIGHT or not, the reality is that EW is an entertainment magazine and TWILIGHT is one of the biggest things to hit entertainment in a long time, so I don’t see any problem with their coverage. I could care less about Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter. In fact, I hate both properties, but I don’t complain about EW covering them, because they are huge parts of the Entertainment industry, and so is Twilight, besides, you can skip the articles…

    • Andy

      EW is not E! Entertainment.

    • It’s one thing for EW to cover Twilight’s trailers, premieres, casting, etc. God knows they probably do that enough. It’s another thing to publish tabloid gossip about the actors. It’s tacky and makes what should be a “grown-up” magazine into a rag.

      • TellyB

The entertainment industry is by its nature “tacky”; plus, it would be quite dull if the magazines and shows only covered “grown up” entertainment. Can you imagine if they only talked about THE WRESTLER, PRECIOUS, and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT? Sorry, but TRANSFORMERS, TWILIGHT and FRIENDS are all valid pieces of the entertainment industry, not to mention more interesting and commercially viable. If you want to read grown-up magazines, there’s always TIME and BUSINESS WEEK.

      • Heather2

I remember back in the day when that was all that they covered. But I guess they can chalk it up to the economy. WTF, EW.

      • I wasn’t saying that they should only cover “high-brow” entertainment. But they can cover “low-brow” or “popular” entertainment without stooping to tabloid levels.
They can flood the site with Twilight “news” all they want (and they do) and that’s perfectly valid, when it’s about clips, trailers, casting, reviews, etc. When it’s about the co-stars’ personal lives, it stops being valid news and starts being rag gossip.

  • fiddlefaddle44

what if they are going out? so what? or *gasp* they aren’t? what does it really matter either way? answser: absolutley zilch.

  • Kalie

This woman should learn to keep her mouth shut. Their relationship is none of her business. They won’t even discuss it, so what gives her the right to talk about their personal lives in a magazine interview? Why should we believe anything she says, anyway? She’s probably bitter because she was let go after “Twilight” and they found someone better to direct NM.

  • Cindy

    You stay classy, Hardwicke.

    • Daisy

      LOL! Awesome!

  • UGH

EW: the new People / US Weekly

    • Heather2

Pretty much in a nut shell.
