Janet Jackson to open the 2009 American Music Awards

Tags: ,

There could be another Michael Jackson tribute headed our way. Janet Jackson will kick off the 2009 American Music Awards on Nov. 22 with a “special opening medley.” The show is mere days after Jackson unveils her new hits album NUMBER ONES on Nov. 17 which features 33 of her #1 hits plus the new single “Make Me.” A spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions would not confirm whether or not the medley would feature only Janet’s work or if it would incorporate some of her brother’s classics.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched The American Music Awards. For some reason, music award shows always suck. The Grammys is the best, and that’s really saying something. But I like Janet, so I’ll try to watch. It makes me uneasy that her flagging career might get a lift from her brother’s death. On the other hand, she’s a great performer who’s career didn’t deserve to go down the toilet because she accidentally flashed a boob. I hope it’s great and wish her luck.

I think her career went down the toilet because she’s put out crappy music. You put out good music and people would be buying it. It had nothing to do with her boob.

I have not watched the amas in ove ten years and was not plannign to watch this year but I will watch and have invite friends over to watch JANET

I hope she does one of her songs, like Together Again, in tribute to Michael, instead of a medley of his songs.

Janet is back to being ‘Janet Jackson’? How convenient. Janet is also calling her album NUMBER ONES? How original. Just like Michael Jackson & Mariah Carey. When is the last time Janet had a top 10 hit, much less a number 1 song? How can this woman sleep at night knowing she’s trying to revive a career on her dead brother’s coattails? SAD.

This whole family is like a pack of rabid vultures. They ceased to be relevant decades ago!!!!

just a question on the semantics of this post. how can Janet’s cd feature “33 of her #1 hits” when she only had 10 #1 hits? it doesn’t make sense unless you count remixes. either way, i love Janet and MJ!

Technically, 33 is correct. When you consider the 3 charts Janet impacted (Hot 100, Dance, and R&B) and songs on which she is featured, she has 33 individual chart toppers.

so, does that mean it will be 10 songs, each three times? lol

I love janet.. couldn’t help it though, it was too easy. *wink*

I love janet and michael……class acts.

Never watched it, never will. Another lame made-for-TV music awards event populated by a bunch of who-were-theys and so-whats crammed down people’s throats by an industry that has totally lost touch with reality, which is why music sales for big labels are in the toilet. I’d much rather go listen to GOOD indie music live. These shows are a dime a dozen.
