George Lopez premieres to strong ratings

Categories: Television

The Monday night premiere of George Lopez’s new talk show attracted strong ratings. Variety reports that Lopez Tonight drew 3.1 million people on TBS, TNT and TruTV, including 1 million in the important 18-49 demographic. Lopez’s first effort, which welcomed guests Ellen DeGeneres, Eva Longoria-Parker, Kobe Bryant and Carlos Santana, beat The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in the ratings.

I saw a clip with Kobe and he brings a lot of energy to talk show. Maybe he should replace Leno?

Excellent show; the second episode was great too – especially the video in Marc Anthony’s house. Hope it keeps up the momentum – a 180 degree different ( and better) show than Wanda Sykes’ show.
Lopez brings some cool to the late night talkies missing since Arsenio left the air. Sykes’ show spent too much time hating on politicians and defending the president – most comedians would make comedy about the sitting president no matter who he is or political affiliation. George didn’t broach this at all – it was about having fun – and i enjoyed it.

Love the show, but there are problems with the format sometimes with the guests clowning around and Lopez looks kind of thrown because he was in the middle of asking a question. Sometimes, he plays along, but he looks distracted and not in control. I question the guest selection. Kobe? Cmon…Kobe!!?? If Lopez really wants to include everybody like he has said to start both shows so far, he should move away from reminding the audience that the show is based in LA and he is an LA sports fan.

gee some people just dont want to see change!
why does goerge have to be in control? so he can be as dull and monotonous like the other late night shows? he doesnt look distracted thats just your take . he is very quick on the uptake and extremely hip.
you need to watch the ye olde boring shows you dont get it.

Last night was his best so far. Jamie was clowning. He is so funny. I watch him over Daily Show. Marc Anthony was actually funny.

  • Ailene

    Love iT!

I love the spanglish. He is bringing something new to late night, mainly a latino with some street cred.

It’s just a matter of time till this show gets canceled. Lopez is too repetitive with the same jokes. Just watch his stand up comedy routines if you think I’m joking. Plus, Lopez is a racist and Americans are going to take to him nicely unless he tones down his anti-white and anti-black rhetoric. And if you don’t believe he is racist, again, just watch his stand up comedy. You’ll never know it by watching his family show!

you are soo wrong dude . you are another one that needs to go back to the golden girls reruns .george has become successful with his latino jokes his hit sitcom was the humour.
no you are dead wrong . this strong beginning shows there is an interest and a need for a show like this and i know it will be a great hit like his sitcom.
just change the channel and drink your milk old man

  • Chris

Better then leno?!! No way, Leno might not be doing so great right now, but hes a way better talk show host, i mean he has been doing it for 18 years! I love lenos new show, i wish they would of never given it to conan so leno coulda stayed as the king of late night!

    • forkuu

yo dude leno is tanking . get it? now that he is out of johnnys old time slot he is going nowhere fast. he is boring repetitve and dull as a rock .
lopez is a breath of fresh air and he is just what america needs!enough of the same dull white dudes!

      • lorvuu

        You are amazing!

I agree George Lopez has brought some mult-cultural magic to late night television. It’s just a big reminder that we are no longer living in salt and pepper society. The best is yet to come. Viva La Raza, Viva George Lopez!

  • E. Vaughn

George Lopez is just what late night TV needs. He is latino and is doing a good job at showing our demographic, laughing at it almost. he is to be commended.

  • ColoMbia
