The suspect in the David Letterman extortion case will ask the court to drop the case, the AP reports. The lawyer for TV news producer Robert J. Halderman, who’s due in New York City court today, will ask that the first-degree grand larceny charge be dismissed. Attorney Gerald Shargel plans to challenge the grand jury evidence that led to his arrest on charges that he blackmailed the late-night host for $2 million, which prompted Letterman to publicly acknowledge affairs he’s had with staffers.

Yeah, good luck with that one Robbie.
oh he can ask, like I can ask for my hair to grow back.
Dropping the case because there is not a chance in hell that he will be getting any money….too bad, so sad
You were trying to ruin Letterman. It backfired on your a**. Cry me a river!
Bwahahahahahahaha! This guys funny!!! I forgot that extortion was a crime. My bad.
F-n loser. Have fun in OZ!!!
I’m going to try that trick next time I get pulled over for a speeding ticket. “Yeah, I know I was going 50 miles over the speed limit. But how about you just… drop the charge, officer?”
I’m going to ask the court to compel hot women to go out with me. I figure I have the same chance…
Well, you *can* go to court and ask. Sometimes they’ll even cut the fine in half.
Sorry there Haldertwat, it doesn’t quite work that way.
I’m sure he would have returned the money a couple weeks later had Letterman’s check been real, too. Enjoy prison!
Both sides will agree to some sort of plea. None of them wants this to go to trial, and that’s fine by me.
Hand, I’d like you to meet Cookie Jar.
