Wanda Sykes talk show outpaces 'MADtv'

Categories: News, Television

Though final numbers will not be available until later this week, The Wanda Sykes Show, which debuted Saturday night on Fox, was up 16 percent from MADtv’s fourth-quarter average in 2008, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers. The show’s 2.2 household rating doubled Spike Feresten’s effort for the network, Variety reports.

    ok……………..

But will viewers come back after the horrid reviews?

  • blinkone

Of course, Wanda did well. Fox promoted the hell out of her show. In fact, I would wager the budget for the promotional launch for Skyes show outweighed the promtional budget for the entire Mad series and the Spike talk show combined. If you don’t adveristed they will not come.

i luv wanda sykes in a comedy show setting but the talk show was pure CRAP …

  • wysiwyg

The premiere was highly anticipated but the reality was it was awkward. I’m not sure I’ll come back. I love Wanda, but this just didn’t click.

just like Leno – it’s a blip on the radar as people see what the hype is all about (NOT)- ratings will come down now that we have all figured out there is no substance or much of anything special about this show – sorry Wanda

Wanda Sykes is the most offenisve person in the entertainment industry. She single handeldy drove me away from Lardy Davids show a couple of seasosn ago, where i did not even now her name. hope this failure but an end to her racisit trash talk.

The first show wasn’t very good, but I’m not giving up on her. I think the show will find its groove.

first show not only wasn’t good – it was really bad – if you can’t get your best material out and ready for the first show – then what hE!! – in this short attention span – quick hit ratings world – taking time to find the groove is not a wise choice

It will take maybe 4 or 5 shows to get its momentum. Most first shows aren’t always that good. I thought the first show was funny, typical adult comedy that works for that 11 pm hour. It kind of dragged in the middle, but it picked up later. It wouldn’t fit in primetime.

    Watch “Lopez Tonight” instead.

Wow, I’m impressed that Wanda Sykes show did well in the ratings, 16 percent over MADTv! The advertising and hyping of the show for one to two months leading to November 7th really paid off! But maybe MADTv was eroding after 14 years and they needed something to replace it. I wish Wanda’s new show well this November and beyond.

So, people were only previewing the show. After the horrible reviews it’s going to decline. Just like Leno. Sorry Sykes but it was not a good show at all.

  • Taylor

It was a very long, painful hour of tv. I would imagine the decline in viewers next week will be quite large.

  • White Guy

Pure crap. Her HBO show was funny, this is bad. Bring back Spike
    he is funny.

  • Fred Harris

I stopped watching any show she is on since I heard her political views.
