No decision on Oprah Winfrey's move to cable: Report

Categories: News, Television

Reuters reports that Oprah Winfrey has not yet decided where she will move her syndicated talk show. A Harpo spokesperson told the wire service, “She has not made a decision yet. As she has previously stated, she’ll be making an announcement before the end of the year.” The news follows reports that the long-reigning queen of daytime will take The Oprah Winfrey Show from her current syndicated deal with CBS to her own Los Angeles-based cable network, OWN, when her current deal expires mid 2011 (Winfrey’s 25th year). A spokesperson for CBS Television Distribution tells EW.com, “Nothing has changed. The decision is Oprah’s to make. As we have stated repeatedly, we love Oprah and if she wants to continue her show then we want to continue to be in business with her.” A spokesperson for OWN wouldn’t comment but the architects of the network have long said that since its Winfrey’s network she would appear in shows, specials and pop-up in unexpected places.

Oprah is considering moving her show from broadcast TV to cable? Sounds like Howard Stern, where moving his show to Sirius made him a fortune, but cost him millions of listeners AND made him irrelevant in the eyes of the public. Think long and hard about this one, Oprah.

So irrelevant that you are still talking about him … ;)

P.S. – please Chicago – the place where you are never seen shopping, visiting or anything……now I know Michigan Ave will never have to close for your 25th year celebration

You know, a lot of people still don’t have cable and can’t afford it especially in today’s economy. If she moves her show to cable, it just shows that what she cares most about is money, not people. Total hypocrite, but I don’t like her anyways so maybe I’m biased.

What’s the big deal here? Lots of fat, boring, middle-aged women with low intelligence have cable. He numbers won’t change at all.

Now Harry……..we’re not talking abiut you’re MOM right now, we’re talking about Oprah.

“since its Winfrey’s network” – you need to add the apostrophe to “it’s” – geez EW, don’t you all have someone doing the proofreading these days?

    • josephrileyland

No, they don’t. I see typos ALL OF THE TIME on ew.com and each and every time I do, I try to understand why I am an unemployed writer.

    • WhoMe?

Wrong. “It’s” is only used in place of “it is” not for the possesive. Geez an EW fan, didn’t you go to High School English class?

      • gigi

        BURN!!

      • Me

You may want to rethink this statement, seeing as how, you know, the sentence would read “since it is Winfrey’s network”, without an apostrophe
