Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy has signed on to direct a feature film adaptation of the beloved Berenstain Bears children’s books, planning a mix of live action and animation to make the comedy, USA Today reports. The books by Jan and the late Stan Berenstain have maintained their popularity with kiddie readers since first starting with 1962’s The Honey Hunt. The movie’s release date may come as early as 2011.

Love the Bernstein Bears. Hope they do a good job!
“Berenstain”??? Really?
Yes, really. That’s how it’s spelled. (I’m assuming that was what your comment was about.)
This is something that could be truly awesome, since they have a wealth of stories to choose from…unless they completely muck it up, which is far more likely.
Um…what? Seriously? Was there a big demand for a Berenstain Bears movie that I missed?
I mean, I liked the books when I was a kid, as did my daughter, but not once have I said “Man, I wish they’d make these books into a movie.” Just because it’s possible to turn a book[s] into a movie doesn’t mean you should do it.
