Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin to co-host Oscars

Categories: Movie Biz, Movies, News

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will serve as co-hosts of the 82nd Oscars on March 7, 2010. Oscar telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman said in a statement: “We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”

Martin, who previously hosted the 73rd and 75th Oscar shows, said: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.” Baldwin, a previous Oscar nominee in 2003 for The Cooler, added: “I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Yeah STEVE MARTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was one of my favorite hosts ever…and I love Alec Baldwin so it should be great.

  • Penny

LOVE Steve Martin, but I can’t stand Alec Baldwin, so I can say that I am neutral about this.

I’m excited! I’m interested to see how the 2-host thing works, and I absolutely LOVE both of these guys. Nice choice!

  • dave

I’m definitely happy with this choice. I love both of them, I think they’ll do a great job.

My initial reaction is bleh. I think they could have looked further and chosen better. Not to mention I don’t like the idea of co-hosts. Muy disappointed right now!

  • zinaxena

Very excited for these two! Also can’t wait to see them in It’s Complicated.

  • Jack

I wonder if they will also co-host Saturday Night Live (they have that competitive thing over who has hosted the most!).

  • jcarla

Aren’t they in a movie together with Meryl Streep?

    • RubyBaby

Yes, jcarla: The movie’s due out soonish, I think. It’s called It’s Complicated. Steve Martin plays Meryl Streep’s love interest, and Alec Baldwin as her ex-husband.

Ugh. Two most annoying actors, that’s boring. I can already tell that this is going to be a fail compared to last year.

    • sorry don

oh yes the craptacular hugh jackman hosted event was sooooo good last year..

  • rachel

Dammit, I wish Ben Stiller & Robert Downey Jr didn’t turn it down..they would’ve been so awesome together.

    • pj

Stiller and Downey would have been great…

I’m just wondering if Lorne Michaels now controls the universe?! His little SNL-degrees -of-seperation is popping up in everything these days. After all, are Martin and Baldwin not the two people who have hosted SNL the most times?! Apologizes in advance if I am mistaken.

  • dj

Steve Martin is awesome. Cannot stand Alec Baldwin.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Steve Martin might be good but Alec Baldwin is terrible!!!!

  • Betty

Won’t Billy Crystal ever come back to host again? He was so great!

  • Carol

Would love to have seen Hugh Jackman back, however I love Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin, they will be great

  • Befuddled

Is this Producer Adam Shankman the same as So You Think You Can Dance Adam Shankman?????

  • Andrew

Geez…what’s with all the Baldwin hate…I think the two of them playing off each other is going to make for one funny evening

  • mZZZen

Hold your friends close and your enemies closer. Enjoy the Journey, mZZZen

Steve is one of the great talents and people in Hollywood. He has delivered more laughs and his humor is pure. Alec is one guy I never suspected to be as a funny as he has turned out, because of all the serious roles he played in the past. I just wish I had TV so I could watch these two perform together. Maybe you guys can do a live webcast, that would be cool?

  • dj4our

    What underwhelming news….this is awful!

  • Kyle

This is good!! I love Steve Martin and I think Alec Baldwin is ok so it could work!!!
