Roman Polanski loses appeal, stays in Swiss jail

Roman Polanski has lost his appeal to be released from jail in Switzerland, the Associated Press reports. The Swiss Criminal Court said the director, who is currently being held pending possible extradition to the U.S., is a flight risk. Polanski was convicted in 1977 of a sex crime involving a 13-year-old before fleeing the U.S. and living as a fugitive for 32 years.

ABC Family close to pilot order for drama 'Pretty Little Liars'

ABC Family may soon order a pilot for new drama Pretty Little Liars, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series, based on young-adult novels by Sara Shepard, would follow a group of female high-school friends brought together by uncanny circumstances. Privileged‘s Lucy Hale is close to signing on as the pilot’s star.

Cate Blanchett drama 'Indian Summer' put on hold

Universal Pictures has put plans for one of Cate Blanchett’s next starring vehicles on indefinite hold, Variety reports. Indian Summer, a drama about the end of Great Britain’s colonial control of India, was to have begun filming early next year under director Joe Wright. Blanchett was set to play Edna Mountbatten, wife of the final Viceroy of the British Indian Empire. Budget concerns, logistical challenges, and creative differences with the present-day Indian government are all said to have played a role in the decision.

U2 concert will be streamed live on YouTube Sunday

U2 has announced via its official website that the band’s sold-out Oct. 25 show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. will be streamed live on YouTube. The full concert will be viewable for free on the site. Over 96,000 fans have tickets to attend in person.

Fox plans US update of 'Daylight Robbery'

Fox is planning a US update of British series Daylight Robbery. Variety reports that Karyn Usher (Bones) will adapt the script, about four housewives who are in financial straits and start a life of crime. Fox has given a script order plus penalty. Fox has also given the same order for another hour-long drama, Midland, about a polygamist with two wives.

Paula Wagner plots new musical with Run-DMC

Paula Wagner, best known as Tom Cruise’s production partner, is now working on an original musical with Run-DMC, Variety’s Liz Smith reports. Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels are meeting with Wagner to start developing a musical based on their rise to fame.

Adam Shankman to direct movie of 'Rock of Ages'

Hairspray‘s Adam Shankman will direct and choreograph the screen adaptation of Rock of Ages, Variety reports. The New Line film will start shooting in summer 2010 for a 2011 release by Warner Bros. Rock of Ages creator Chris D’Arienzo wrote the script. The show is about a couple that meet in an Los Angeles rock bar, whose relationship is told through ’80s rock anthems.
