The net has ordered eight one-hour episodes, scheduled to air in 2011. “This is a unique story that hasn’t been told yet,” Roth told THR. “There’s something great and transformative when you take the game element out of it and just focus on one man or woman over the course of a year and there’s no prize at the end.”

The mini-series, and political novel before that, will be adapted into a one-hour television drama with Fincher at the helm, along with Button screenwriter Eric Roth and Sam Raimi’s producing partner Josh Donen. The MRC/Fincher adaptation will be set in the U.S., and while it will follow an American politician, it will still delve into the same themes of the mini-series: political ambition, crisis, networking and blackmail.
Hulu to start charging in 2010
At an industry summit in NYC on Oct. 21, News Corp Deputy Chairman Chase Carey revealed that online video hub Hulu will begin charging users for content as soon as 2010, according to Broadcasting and Cable. Carey told reporters that a subscription system is likely, although some content will probably continue to be offered free of charge. “I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value,” he said.

Travolta blackmail case to be retried
According to Reuters, a Bahamian Supreme Court judge called for a retrial on Oct. 21 in the case of two men accused of attempting to blackmail John Travolta. After a local politician prematurely announced that the accused parties had been acquitted, Justice Anita Allen voiced her suspicion that members of the jury had leaked their verdict before delivering it officially in the courtroom. “We are very concerned in the interest of justice that it does not appear that there has been a communication from the jury room. Justice must not only be done, but seen to be done,” she said. A lawyer for Travolta—who claims he was blackmailed for $25 million in January after the death of his son, Jett— said that the star would testify again if asked to do so by the prosecution.
