Broadway's 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' revival to close Sunday

Categories: News, Stage

Broadway’s new revival of Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs will close on Sunday, a source with the production told The New York Times. Also, the companion production of Simon’s Broadway Bound will not open as planned. Poor ticket sales are to blame. Brighton Beach Memoirs opened on Oct. 25 to mixed-to-positive reviews (EW gave it an A-), but grossed only about $124,000 for eight performances last week, The Times reported. Laurie Metcalf led the cast and David Cromer was directing both productions.

:( . Grabbed a TDF ticket for Sunday just now. It’s too bad nobody wanted to see this show, I’ve heard nothing but good things about this production in particular.

It’s terrific. Everyone should see it…

That’s really too bad. I loved it, and was looking forward to Broadway Bound. The kid who plays Eugene is incredible.

That’s a darn shame. It’s a really good play – but isn’t Biloxi Blues the middle one? Why would they jump straight to Broadway Bound (which I saw with Jonathan Silverman in ‘87 – it was great).

You know you’re in trouble when you can’t even move tickets to a Neil Simon revival.

That’s really ironic and funny because I was going on a field trip with my school to Brighton Beach Memoirs next Wednesday. I really wanted to go, huge theater buff, and this made me a little sad because I actually played Eugene in a scene once.
