Chris Farley ad 'a celebration,' according to Kevin Farley

Categories: News, Television

Some folks are upset with DirecTV’s new ad campaign featuring David Spade riffing with the late Chris Farley–in the commercial, the two comics are forced to entertain themselves because they don’t have DirecTV–but it’s all in good fun, according to an official statement released by Kevin Farley, Chris’ brother. “We as a family believe the DirecTV commercial is a celebration of Chris. It shows him doing what he loved to do most, making people laugh.” In the past, DirecTV has used other dead celebrities to sell its product–last year there was a controversy over an ad featuring a clip of Heather O’Rourke in Poltergeist. That actress died in 1988, at age 12.

When money talks, the dead walks.

I dont see anything wrong with the commercial, How is it different then when a singer comes out with a duet with a singer who as passed away?

  • Mike

How come these idiots don’t have anything wrong with a movie about Michael Jackson???????????? Chris Farley was and is in my book one of the top 10 funny men of all time.

I thought it was funny, but admit it made me a little sad. Maybe because it was “him” doing something new. He was a such a funny guy.

It’s not actually new– it’s from the hilarious “Tommy Boy”. But it’s always nice to see Chris and bring him to a new audience.

So he died of natural cause right? I mean, he did seem like a young, healthy man.. no vices or anything

Think about it people this is not controversy it is a cable company taking a shot at a satellite company. They want you to be made at Direct Tv so you don’t sign up.

It made me laugh, but only because it reminded me of the those old great skits and bits he did back then. I think he was still on SNL at that point. But it creeped me out a little, too.

I wasn’t surprised when he died, it seeme obvious, so it reminds me of that, too.

I’m more upset about that awful red couch David Spade is sitting on.

Fat guy in a little coat is classic! I think its awesome that they used him in the commercial! It’s so irritating that this is even an issue. Aren’t there more important things to bicker about.

Love Chris Farley. He’s funnier dead than alot of living comics

Well.. he did made me laugh when I heard he died

I absolutely LOVED seeing that commercial. I started singing the “Fat guy in a little coat” song. Chris Farley was talented. I miss him and his movies.

As creepy as it is, I feel that this was something the public at large should not have invested emotional outrage ovet. That type of emotion is reserved for the Farley Family and from what I can see if the family has no problem with it, then this is a non-issue for the public. Now issues like health care, that is what the public at large should invest its emotions on.

I was one of the few who thought that it was a little weird seeing Chris Farley in that commercial. I just think that he was so beloved and such a tragic person who tried to do good in the world (read The Chris Farley Show to get a better idea of this, but it’s also because you know DirecTV is making money off of him even when he’s dead.

  • Missing Chris

The commercial made me smile and tugged at my heart….he was so adorable and funny and so full of life…and if this commercial makes one person who didn’t know his work find out about the genius that was Chris Farley, it is way worth the discussion. Chris would be happy people are still smiling over him

  • Ed

For crying out loud, the commercial is a TRIBUTE to Farley! And believe me when I say your stupid emails and phone calls are NOT taken seriously by DIRECTV, nor should they be. Jeez, people, lighten the f*** up!
