Categories: Movie Biz, Movies, News

Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join Joel and Ethan Coen’s re-imagining of the 1969 western True Grit, reports Variety. Jeff “The Dude” Bridges has already signed for the role of U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn, which won original star John Wayne an Academy Award. Damon would play the Texas Ranger who joins Cogburn in tracking down the killer of a 14-year-old girl’s father. Brolin would play the killer.

So Damon would be playing the part originally played by Glen Cambell and Brolin will be playing the part originally played by Robert Duvall.

I can easily see Brolin in a western, as it is familar ground for him….. I DO NOT think that Jeff Bridges can fill the Duke’s shoes tho!

yeah, Brolin will be playing the part of Chenney, not Lucky Ned Pepper. and this movie will be horrible, no one can replace the Duke!

Josh Brolin would make the better Cogburn and Damon should be the killer. By the by, doesn’t this mean Bridges will have to kill Damon half way through the movie? My memory’s a little hazy…

can’t hollywood think of anything original and who would play the 14 year old girl? and by the way the dude in a western COME ON!

I’m really disappointed that the Coen brothers, who are some of the most original filmmakers in the biz, are now in the business of doing remakes. I thought they were better than that.

You DO realize “The Ladykillers” was a remake, right? Granted, it wasn’t one of their better-received movies, but it was still a remake.

That being said, they ARE some of the most original filmmakers out there and I’m sure they’ll bring their own twist to it.

I’m without doubt going to see it! I was never lucky enough to see him perform in concert so this will be the next best thing! Can’t wait!

They need to put in a brand new fresh face for the part of Matty. I think it would be more beleavable NOT to have a known girl actor in that part.
