Although I like the concept in theory, I’m afraid that they’re gonna overexpose the brand.
2 Top Chefs plus a Top Chef: Masters each year…and now Top Chef: Just Desserts? Oy. What’s next, Top Chef: Mixologists where the contestants concoct drinks?
The worst part is that I wouldn’t be surprised if that no talent hack, Elizabeth Falkner, tries out for this too. She’s been slaughtered on a couple Food Network Challenges, got trounced by Cat Cora on Iron Chef America in one of the all time lowest scoring battles (both sides) ever, and got eliminated quickly on Top Chef: Masters. I hope she doesn’t appear here too.

darclyte, when they announce the debut of the mixologist spin-off, we’ll know who to blame for giving them the idea. :)

    • JOSE

Is it wrong that i think top chef: mixologists sounds like a great idea. Plus you’d learn new drink combos

      • Lani

Haha….I totally agree. Best Idea Ever!

I LOVE Food network Challenge but I cringe when I see her on it. She is untalented and a whiner. She slaps together crap and then whines when A) she doesnt win. And B) whines about the other contestants. She is terrible t.v.

  • Jane

I’m with you darclyte. I love Top Chef, and yet I’m almost done with that show too. I just don’t see myself watching a dessert version. They already have a show like that, and that’s the the Food Network’s Challenge show.

    • Tarc

Yeah, but the food network challenge shows (for the most part) are *terrible*. Take great food artists and put so many contraints on them that all they produce is embarrassing garbage is a sure recipe for me to change the channel. The lengthier times for the sugar art and the pre-made gingerbreadcontests are VASTLY better. I want to see the contestants at the BEST, not figureing out which one got the luckiest in the puddle of crap.

  • Kim from Texas

What a terrific idea! I have a huge sweet tooth and think this is really great!

  • Robert

Top Chef anything – stick a fork in it – DONE – move on people – nothing more to see here

  • Stefanie

    What’s next Top Prep Cook?

  • Sarah

I’m actually kind of looking forward to this. I hate how the chefs on Top Chef never do desserts because pastries aren’t “their thing”.

    • Tarc

Me, too. Frankly, I feel it takes more skill to do pastry – it is far more exacting.

  • Nick

This is actually one of the first Top Chef seasons where I am truly interested in who wins. Plus, I though the innovations in scoring on Masters (i.e. we get to hear each judges empirical score) set it apart from the mother ship. Finally, as someone who considers himself a pretty good pastry chef, I would welcome this sort of format. So, in other words… Stop sniveling and don’t watch it.

so do these so called “top chefs” even cook in their own place – or is everything done by underpaid line cooks – from the salad station to the fry station – these “chefs” are nothing more than glorified traffic cops – ordering the real line cooks to toil while they get the fame and glory

      • Audrey

Have you ever watched Top Chef? These guys create their own dishes from conception to plating and prepare them for judges and hordes of other people. They don’t simply order people around in the kitchen. They work hard and the earn their spot in the finish! It’s one of the best ‘reality’ shows on television.

      • Matt

Audrey, I think she was referring to the chefs on Top Chef Masters. In some cases she is exactly right. The Italian douchebag in the finals definitely doesn’t cook much in his own restaurant. I’m pretty sure that Eric Ripert doesn’t either (although that No Reservations episode with Eric joining Tony Bourdain on the line at Les Halles was pretty funny, he kicked Tony’s ass).

    • Audrey

TOTALLY AGREE Nick! Bring on the puff pastry and egg wash, I’m in!

      • carole

work hard to get the money to open more “concept” restaurants to stoke their overinflated egos about how much people will flock to “eat” the micro portions that is their latest creation – sorry not impressed by $100 plates of food – and I’m sorry that you are

  • yummm!

All I want to know is how do I get to be a judge on this show???? Can’t wait!

  • Staple

    Top Chef: Dishwasher!

  • Matt

Well, in a post-Project Runway Bravo, this is what happens. You get brand overexposure. What else do they have to offer? Another “Real Housewives of Hell” show? Or more “Flipping Out?” Poor Bravo really only has a couple of decent shows they can capitalize on.

  • liferehab

Are there really that many options for desserts and pastry chefs?! I also feel awful for the judges. I have one of the biggest sweet tooths ever and I can’t imagine eating dessert after dessert.

    • Tarc

      I volunteer!

  • Kaja

Bring on the Cakes and Cookies. Its 15 minutes of sifting and stirring and 30 minutes of looking in the oven. . . IS IT DONE YET???

  • Al

easy bake mixes and oven – only 10 minutes needed

  • Camron Barth

I prefer Next Food Network Star – on the Food Network.

  • Camron Barth

I prefer Next Food Network Star – on the Food Network! Last season was great!
