With low-budget horror hit Paranormal Activity now at the top of the box office, Paramount is eyeing a sequel, the Los Angeles Times reports. “We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do Paranormal 2 and we’re looking to see if that makes some sense,” Paramount Chairman Brad Grey told the Times. The horror film, made for just $15,000 and acquired by Paramount for $300,000, has made $62.5 million so far and industry players expect it to cross $100 million.

Don’t do it! Not every horror movie needs a sequel. Look what happened to Blair Witch 2. Horrible! Do the right thing and let Paranormal Activity be sequel-less
NO. NO. NO. NO.
agreed. Blair Witch 2 anyone? How sucktacular was that?
Seriously. The first was bad enough. Even if you did like it, it’s not worth ruining.
My first thought exactly!
Just leave it!
Please no
So much of what was great about this movie was the setup. The bedroom, the open doorway leading down the hall… it was genius. They could do another cool setup like that, but I’d only see it if Oren Peli were involved.
Do we remember when they tried to make a sequel to Blair Witch and how well that turned out?
For the love of God…Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I was expecting this, not so quick though.
Why they gotta screw everything up? They get an excellent, truly creepy little horror movie like this, and immediately plan to sour if by making what will probably be a big-budget Hollywood sequel. The small scale of this movie is what makes it powerful, and they’ll never be able to recapture that by Hollywood-izing it.
For goodness sake leave it alone. Hollywood, this is how you screw everything up. Your gonna mess up the awesomeness that is Paranormal Activity.
WTF??!! WHY IS IT EVERY SUCCESSFUL FILM NEEDS TO SPAWN A SEQUEL??!! The sheer brilliance and attractiveness of this film IS its originality and freshness. Why do the bastards at these big movie studios have to tarnish that? Anyone remember BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2? Didn’t think so. Put all that cash towards creative writers, directors, etc.who can conjure up NEW ideas: not MORE sequels, prequels, “reimaginings,” movies based on comics, toys, old TV shows, old franchises….
I, personally would like to see a sequel only because they need to explain why the demon chose those girls. they never really explained it. It doesn’t need to have a huge HOLLYWOOD budget, but i think it would be interesting to dig a little further in to the background of the story.
Maybe make it the story of Diane (I think that was the name). I can see making that interesting. Maybe.
that would be a prequel
Please. NO. Leave it be.
Even as someone who didn’t think Paranormal Activity was all that great, this is a terrible idea. While I’m glad an independent film garnered this much attention and revenue (this could result in more original films vs. repackaged ones), bleeding it dry with sequels is only asking for trouble. Fight the temptation.
Bad sequels, bad! Can’t awesome movies just bask in their singular glory instead of trying (and likely failing) to milk a franchise?
