I just read the wonderful news on my home page. Thank you to Sony for not letting such a wonderful actor go!For some of the coments I’ve read up there, I think you confuse the Eric with the character. Not very fair considering you really don’t know him as a person. I hope 3 years, means 3 years.I think all of the actors should make sure their contract does not allow the powers that be to come back at any time to change your contract until the very end.I’m now back to watching Young and Restless, So See Ya
there are so many know it alls out there. I guess God wont need a judgment as you all can do it for him.Eric Braeden is a fine actor.
Mixed feelings here. I like Victor Newman–he can be a monster at times, but other times he’s shown great compassion. I’ve always called him the most complex character on daytime TV. And I thought Eric Braeden was getting screwed over by Sony. On the other hand, I was looking forward to seeing another actor take on the role (I was kind of hoping it would be Ron Raines from Guiding Light–he would have done an incredible job as Victor Newman). Still, I’ll keep watching the show, but only if they fire the entire writing staff and get some writers who can come up with some really good, character driven stories. There are some story lines on right now that are so mind-numbingly stupid that I can’t believe a soap of Y&R’s calibre lets them run. The baby-switch story line. That whole dopey fake painting story line. Anything Gloria and her husband do. I could go on, but I’m sure other fans know what I’m talking about.
No one can take Victor Newman/Eric Braedens place-NO ONE!!!!!!!
I’m sorry, after seeing some of the character’s scenes, I wish Victor Newman would stay gone. I have nothing against the actor himself, but the writers have made his character such a sanctmonious S.O.B. over this whole Colleen dying (his fault), and then getting her heart.
I just wanted to add, that you would think his latest “almost dying” and the generosity of Tracy Abbott would’ve made him a little more compassionate.
ITA with you. I was really turned off by the scene last Friday when the psychiatrist who had been treating Patty Williams confronted Jack and Victor. Jack took responsibility for his actions, but Victor had the same old “who,me? I didn’t do anything” attitude he’s had for years. I wish the writers would start showing some of the old hard-a$$, but still compassionate Victor. I miss that character.
I heard that they would have paid him what he wanted if he learned how to change the expression on his face. After all, he only has one and has been using it for 30 years.
I don’t watch Y&R, but I am a huge GH fan, so I just wanted to add that I’m glad to see this story has gotten so much coverage in EW. I think part of the problem with soaps today is that they get very little coverage in mainstream entertainment media (EW, TV Guide)TV Guide hasn’t updated their soaps page since June! I’d love to see more coverage on soaps in EW. Obviously there is a devoted fan base.

I am thrilled to see that Mr. Braeden and CBS were able to come to an agreement. To those of you who are griping about the money, Mr. Braeden was the first actor at Y&R to volunteer to take a pay cut when things started going south for soaps. I get the distinct impression that his issue was NOT money, it was the lack of respect Sony paid to him and his tenure on the show. Whatever … I’m just so pleased to see all parties come to their senses.
Victor is the man! No hes not the whole show but he is a huge part of Y&R! Glad to read this good news!
What wonderful news that Eric & Sony reached a deal. Maybe Victor will come back from rehab a mellower person? So glad he is staying. I was fully prepared to quit watching after 30 years.
Good for him and those of us who watch The Y & R. I have not watched the show since I heard of him departing the show. As far as I’m concerned, he is the Y & R.
I am happy Victor is not leaving because I definitely would stop watching Y&R
I think the show realised who people watch on it, not young teeny boppers who struggle with language, but a character people have a long strong tradition with. Braeden went to the press to plead that case and made them come to their senses. Sure, I hate how the economy is slowly moving but to use that to force pay cuts is simply out of the question.
This is so funny. After Eric Braeden gives an esclusive interview to everyone and their mother. His whining and complaining got him the same salary that Sony initial offered him.
Sounds like that million dollars a year sounded better than certain unemployment outside of small guest spots in primetime.
