Hairspray’s Adam Shankman will direct and choreograph the screen adaptation of Rock of Ages, Variety reports. The New Line film will start shooting in summer 2010 for a 2011 release by Warner Bros. Rock of Ages creator Chris D’Arienzo wrote the script. The show is about a couple that meet in an Los Angeles rock bar, whose relationship is told through ’80s rock anthems.

He should stick to choreography, because he is not a good director.
I thought Hairspray turned out all right. As for the “Step Up” movies, I mean, those didn’t even have a chance.
He’s a GREAT director! Yay, Adam!
My worry is that this show is as much a comedy as it is a musical and I’m not so sure Shankman has the comedy chops. Did anyone laugh at his rom-com The Wedding Planner?
Please @God Adam Shankman, do NOT …I repeat DO NOT cast Constantine Maroulis in this movie. I do not want to have to vomit all over the place.
Wow That Will Be Awesome Rock Of Ages Movie !
I can’t wait for that movie for 2011 it will be exciting .
Go to hell, WhishesForFishes.
Adam Shankman is good when it comes to family comedies. And great directing ‘Hairspray’. It was more entertaining than ‘Chicago’ and I’m a fan of that.
