'Good Hair' poised for wide release after judge's ruling

Tags: ,

Though the film has been locked in a legal battle, Chris Rock’s documentary, Good Hair, will indeed open nationwide Oct. 23, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rock had been sued by Regina Kimbell, the My Nappy Roots director who accused the comedian of stealing her ideas, and demanded the film be blocked from release. A U.S. judge who viewed both films said she did not see enough similarities to halt the release.

UPDATE: In a statement released to the press, Kimbell’s attorney Reginald K. Brown said: “We always knew that it would be tough getting the judge to grant a request for a preliminary injunction. We are looking forward to going to trial.”
