According to Variety, Showtime has given a pilot order for a US adaptation of British family dark comedy/drama Shameless. William H. Macy will take the role of the alcoholic patriarch of the large family. The show’s British creator Paul Abbott will work with John Wells as an executive producer for the pilot, which will shoot in December for John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. TV. The US version will find the blue-collar family living in Chicago, where the eldest daughter has to take care of her younger siblings.

If anyone could redo this show, I think it’s one half of Filliam H. Muffman. Hope it’s good.
Ok, I don’t know about anyone else, but I have seen many, many episodes of the show Shameless (admittedly because of James McAvoy) from England and I don’t really think American audiences will respond to it that well. It was an okay show, with a semi-interesting plot line, but the entire thing was pretty vulgar and not really interesting enough to keep anyone past season 1.
I’ve been watching the American version of Shameless and to be honest, the vulgarity is what makes this show worthwhile. The reason why I say that is because I think that’s what makes the show realistic. I know it’s edgy but does it not fit the times? What makes it even more realistic is watching it in HD through DISH Network. I work there so I heard all the hubbub about HD this and that but it really does make a huge difference. Obviously it is not completely life-like with Frank’s over the top antics but still, I think that’s what really pulls people in.
