Starbucks has issued a comment following news that Carly Simon had filed a lawsuit against them that claimed the coffee shop’s withdrawal from their music label, Hear Music, forced her to be reassigned to a jazz label that did not offer her a sufficient marketing plan for her album, This Kind of Love. “We are disappointed,” the statement reads. “For over a year, Starbucks and StarCon have tried to work with Ms. Simon and her representatives to resolve her concerns…Starbucks believes that StarCon more than fulfilled its obligations to Ms. Simon’s album, This Kind of Love…The album was carried at Starbucks for an additional promotional period in two key markets. Unfortunately, sales continued to lag as the title received tepid response from music consumers.“

“the title received tepid response from music consumers.“ Damn.
Its sad but in this day & age, Carly Simon should be happy she hit 124K in sales. I didn’t buy it as I was somewhat disappointed with her last 2 efforts, Moonlight Serenade and Into White. But she’s a great artist.
What the He11 was Carly expecting – millions in sales or maybe billions – come on – does anyone born in the last 20 years listen to this genre of music anymore…. this seems to make Carly Simon into some sort of wicked b1tch for complaining that no one loves her anymore..
Carly Simon needs to Drop the Lawsuit. She isnt Rock N Roll.Shes too Mellow.Sorry Carly Simon.I wouldnt Dance to her music.
What does her style of music have to do wit it? Your post makes no sense.
with!
I didn’t know she was still making albums. Apparently I wasn’t the only one. If Starbucks is the focal point of “extensive marketing and distribution”, then that says a lot about the status of one’s career. It’s not Starbucks’ fault she hasn’t been relevant in the last 20 years.
Except that her most recent previous albums (from the 90s and 00s) were selling 2 to 3 times more than the ‘Starbucks’ album. Promoting it in 2 cities does not do the trick.
Maybe she should have went straight to iTunes – why mess around with Starbuck – it’s not the marketability – it’s who ever she hired to the album (or is it CD) marketed – they failed – DOH”
It’s not just that Starbucks did not feature her album in their stores – they also did nothing to promote it in terms of advertising and marketing outside of the chain, so no one knew it even existed outside of people who went to her web site.
