'Southland' may move to TNT

Categories: News

Southland may find a place on TNT’s schedule after NBC’s surprise cancellation before the gritty cop drama could even start its sophomore season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, talks are “advancing” between TNT and the series’ studio, Warner Bros. TV. The two sides share a corporate parent, which could make the switch even easier. The critically lauded show, starring Benjamin McKenzie as a rookie police officer, had shot six episodes for the new season before NBC shut it down last week before airing any of them.

Oh please let this be true! Best drama on TV last season with an awesome cast.

    • AJ Simon

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Thank you TNT, NBC was insane to let this show go – now the only show they have worth watching is 30 Rock – though if South Land comes back take out Regina King – her character was awful and slowed the show down – put more time on the beat cops who are the true stars of the show

      • kld

OMG, Regina King is by far the best character on the show, and if TNT do pick this up, there could be an Emmy in it for her!

  • carrie0305

I hope it works out! I love Southland, the cast is great and works well together. Want to see more!

  • SilentRage

Thanks for linking to the Hollywood Reporter on this one, which explains they’re in talks. Just mentioning that they share a corporate parent doesn’t mean anything.
“…sources on Monday indicated that talks between the two sides are advancing.

“We continually look at all programming opportunities that fit our portfolio of brands,” TNT said in a statement. “

  • paige

yea thatd be a good fit

  • harry

I hope they make the correct decision and move to TNT.

  • Meghan

I hope this is true. It is an excellent show and to be canceled because of boring Leno is ridiculous!

  • KT

I really hope this happens!!! The show really deserves to be seen.

  • Mandy

That would be so great and I could see that fitting, too.

  • JC

I hope this is true! No matter what else is on at this time, I will watch Southland regardless. I just hope the production value is still high quality and the new format change (focusing on only a few main cast memmbers) doesn’t hinder the show. Make this happen TNT!

  • Cat

Please pickup “Southland”, TNT!! That show really didn’t deserve an early axe.

    • Maks

Toatally agree, and with “Dark Blue”, “Leverage”, and Raising the Bar, TNT will have a great line up!

  • b3al3str33t

I will sign/do/(gasp)steal whatever I have to do to get this show on the air. Southland trumps every thing!

  • Brenda DuBois

I want go totally mouthland on Ben’s southland, so I hope this get renewed.

    • HawKMom

LOL! I really hope this works out. I miss “Coopman”.

    • gracefan

This could be better than sending peanuts to CBS to save Jericho!!! Send TNT sex toys with lipstick to lobby for a Southland pickup (or is that pick-me-up?)

  • vaiandmikeguest

If I have to watch it live and not Tivo it, AND sit through all the commercials I will. I will also call all the sponsors of the program and personally thank them for advertising during Southland on TNT

  • Lorie

    Fingers crossed that this happens.

  • DomeFoam

    Please please please

  • klwillis45

Cool. But please TNT do the smart thing and re-air the season 1 eps first.

    • Brian C.

Or you can just spend a couple bucks to rent it at Blockbuster. Moron.

      • kerri

asking to see something for free versus paying is not being moronic. also, reairing will get the TNT audience to see what they might have missed at NBC (not to mention the peeps who are hearing about it due to the switch)

  • zortil

Great idea! I haven’t heard anything about Dark Blue’s renewal. I wonder if Southland could take its timeslot.

    • Marsha

I think Dark Blue was horrible. Southland should definitely take it’s place. I loved it.

  • Enh?

ok this might be seriously dumb but is TNT not in Canada? I can never find the shows people are taling about on TNT…. and if Southland is going there I want to go too.

    • Brian C.

Yes, it’s dumb. Stop talking please.

      • Enh?

…That’s typing, brain trust. When we use computers we TYPE to communicate.

    • cdnfilmgirl

We don’t get TNT. Our only hope is if Superchannel picks it up (if it goes to TNT) as they pick up some TNT shows.

      • gg

The show is owned by WBTV. It will probably stay with the same network that aired Season 1.

    • UnRuly

Canadians will still get in on CTV / Bravo. (I emailed the station to ask) They plan to air the six that are made anyway

  • dana

Yippee. Please make it come true. So we’ll have more Ben Mckenzie nudity.

  • Sean

This would be great news. I hope Southland becomes an impressive hit on TNT, which would further the argument for NBC to quit this Jay Leno j*rk off session they’re currently on and bring them back to flagship, innovative entertainment.

  • catlady

I loved this show and was surprised at how disappointed I was when it was cancelled. I’m really hoping that the move to TNT happens.

  • Jackie

I have to confess I never watched this show but if it goes to TNT I’ll watch it just so I can stick it to NBC.

  • bunker

    I really hope this happens.

  • Delo

Love love love Southland! I hope this comes true. It will add to a number of great shows on that network!

  • kitty

Unreal – the only new show worth watching and NBC put it on Friday nights, then cancelled it. Let’s hope TNT picks it up…

  • Susan

this is great news for TNT!!!

  • Francisco

    Great News!

  • Kramer

    LET THIS BE TRUE!
I love this show, don’t let it die!

  • av

just another example of nbc’s continual ineptitude. Unfortunately, there are only 3 major networks now, with nbc being on par with the cw. How sad is that?!

  • Will S

TNT is the perfect home for the show. Glad to see someone’s having enough common sense to realize that this is a show they don’t wanna pass up. Things are looking hopeful and I really cannot wait. I just hope TNT also airs the previous season that I missed. =[
