Bryan Singer said today that he’s in talks with Twentieth Century Fox to direct another movie in the X-Men franchise, according to an Associated Press story published on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website. “I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise,” Singer said during a talk at South Korea’s Pusan International Film Festival. “I’ve been talking to Fox about it.”
The director made both the original X-Men and its sequel X2: X-Men United but skipped the third installment, X-Men: The Last Stand, so he could focus on Superman Returns. Brett Ratner instead directed Last Stand, and Gavin Hood helmed the franchise’s spin-off, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which hit theaters earlier this year. Added Singer: “I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast [of the X-Men movies].”

that would be good. Just wonder which movie he’ll direct, Wolverine 2, Magneto, First Class, or X-Men 4?
Liked X-Men, Loved X2, but after hearing all the horrible reviews for X3, I purposely avoided it like the plauge. I ended up seeing it for free on a plane ride to Peru and teared up because of how horrible it was…this would give that horrible taste still left in my mouth a chance to finally be wiped clean.
I didn’t mind X3.. actually liked it more than 2 in some ways. I also didn’t see it in the theater, however it’s not like the Godfather 3, which destroyed any credibility Coppola had.
I thought X3 was pretty weak too. But I didn’t feel that it was as crushly disappointing as Spiderman 3 or Blade 3. Those two films I thought were far more insulting to fans of the series.
All of the Xmen movies were awful.
The runaway success of the first two disagrees.
just curious as to what you think would have made them better? The acting was top notch.. the action was not all phony.. i mean.. if you are a fan of X-men — what could have made them better?
Part 3 was terriable. It was done by a director who knew nothing of the characters or the history. Know he thinks he’s the reason the series is still alive.
Great news. Brett Ratner botched the third one. The actions scenes were decent, but everything else was both half-assed and melodramatic. The only thing that made it watchable was seeing the characters I grew up with on the big screen again. I still fantasize about what Singer would’ve done with The Dark Phoenix Saga. Oh well. Resurrect Jean Grey, Cyclops and Professor X, give Rogue back her powers, and bring The X-Men franchise back to its former awesomeness. The Age of Apocalypse, House of M, or Days of Future Past would be neat storylines.
Ruining the Dark Phoenix storyline was set in motion by Singer’s choice to use/lose Mastermind (a.k.a. Stryker’s son) in X2.
How was it ruined? It doesn’t have to be a (boring) carbon copy – and I’d hope it wouldn’t be. The Dark Phoenix saga is really dated and really pretty stupid – the general idea would be good, but the movies aren’t the comics (thank God).
The person responsible for triggering the Dark Phoenix persona was presumably killed off in X2 – that is how it is ruined.
This might work if they leave out Storm, Iceman, Rogue, & Kitty Pryde. Those characters were either ruined or miscast. Also, I wish they wouldn’t make Wolverine the central character.
Are you kidding me, Shawn Ashmore was great and so was the character Rogue
You’re dissing Anna Paquin (Rogue) and Ellen Page (Kitty)?
They were the only reasons I watched those films…
Shawn was the reaspn for me but I loved the relationship betwen Iceman and Rogue.
You people are doped! Pick up the comics and read all of the ridiculous liberties Singer took with the properties!
REALLY? 4 years ago they were the reason you watched?
Anna Paquin couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. She’s currently ruining True Blood. Sorry, but it’s true. She has the range and voice acting skills of an oak tree.
If they wouldn’t make Wolverine the central character, Hugh Jackman would never become the Hollywood superstar he is today. I don’t know about you but personally, I don’t want to live in a world without Hugh Jackman…
Iceman and Kity were the best parts of that movie.. as well as jaugqarnot (sp?)
I think making wolverine the main focus is a big reason why the x-men comic became stale & why the film series seems to be going in the same direction. I miean, personally I liked x-men origins up unril the last brain dead 1/2 hour (wolverine can’t tell if his dead girl is really dead? really? an adamantium bullet can go through an adamantium laced skull? really? why not just use a cheap bullet & get agent zero to shoot him in the eye or the ear? I could go on. really…)
I think that with the level that CGI is at now, Mr. Sinister would be an awesome thing to see done in film.
only if they bring back professor X, cyclops, and Jean…otherwise they’ll be awful. Was so mad with the end of the last stand!
I have to agree! Jean and Cyclops have always been it for me! I would love to see them back! And Mr Sinister would be a great thing to see on the big screen!
This is one instance where if the movie started with a character waking up and it turns out the last instalment was all just a bad dream I wouldnt be upset at all.
Word on the street is that Brian Singer like XY-Chromosome or X-gender X-rated movies. Such an xceptionally xperimental young man. he admitted as much when he said, “I love Hugh Jackman.” What makes you think that’s platonic?
I enjoyed part 3 and Wolverine solo, but the series was definitley at its best when he helmed it, so I would love to see him return. It would be great.
i liked X-Men series no matter who directed it…love the actions scene and special effect…
Fantastic news. X3 was aight, but just a blip.
I would love another x-men movie, but only if all of the original cast returned, including halle berry, hugh jackman, shawn ashmore, famke janssen, patrick stewart, ian mckellan, rebecca romijn, and james marsden. I know that they killed off some of those characters in the third, but they should all return and do a movie about the events right before the third film or something, or do an alternate timeline because I didn’t like how they ended it with the third and all of the character deaths.
Can they please redo X3 then???? This way I don’t have to hate the franchise anymore, right now I only watch the first two and I hate that it ends on a cliff hanger!
Leave the franchise alone, por favor.
JUST KEEP SINGER AWAY FROM
SUPERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen Bill! Singer does know how to direct, he just needs to remember how.
I disgree. Singer did a great job with Superman. LOVE Superman Returns. SINGER FOR SUPERMAN, DAMMIT!
I wish he never left the franchise. Part 3 could have been amazing. I hope this happens and we can forget about the horrible part 3 and the Wolverine movie.
Please let this be true.
Two words: THANK GOD!!!!
If ever there was a time for a reboot, this is it. Just ignore X3, pretend like it didn’t happen. It’s not too late to make things right.
X3 was fine, if anything we finally got to see the X Men in action, rather than standing around talking the whole time like they did in the first two movies.
Will this be X-Men: The Final Last Stand (No Really, We Mean it This Time)?
Singer’s Superman was a direct sequel to Superman II that pretends that Superman III and IV never happened. My suggestion: He does the same with X-Men and undoes all the wrong done by X3.
YES! There’s a precedent for him redoing X3! Way to make that connection! Thank you!
That would be great news. It’s no coincidence that I enjoyed Superman Returns and pretend that X3 never happened.
Agreed! Superman Returns is great. Brandon Routh IS Superman.
the first two x-men movies were amazing. I used to think the third one was horrible, but watched it again on dvd and realized it wasn’t that bad. It just wasn’t up to the standards of the first two. If Singer were to return then that would be amazing
Superman Returns sucked. There was no action. It was more of a love story. Boring. I think most of you just say you hated X3 just because you think you are supposed to but I haven’t seen anyone give a reason why. Mob mentality if you ask me.
I won’t go so far and agree on the mob mentality theory, but I’m still baffled why people hate X3 so much when X1 was much duller in comparison. To me, Bryan Singer is only 1 of 3 with superhero flicks. Superman Returns is pretty much what X1 would be without the charismatic Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, because both films suffered from the same problems (too much slow burn psychology, not enough cool display of the mutant’s powers). Singer got it right with X2, though.
X3 had some inconsistent storytelling (which I also blame on the script writers, and not just Ratner), but the entire concept of a mutant war was the spice Singer’s X-men movies lacked. To blame Ratner as the albatross of the series is unfair when Singer’s own results haven’t been grand either.
Not to mention Superman Returns stretched the suspension of disbelief limit. Clark gone for 5 years. Superman gone for 5 years. Clark comes back, and what do you know, Superman is back too. Is everyone at the Daily Planet an idiot?
Clark returned cause Superman returned would be a reason cause its a big story.
Clark returned first before Superman showed up
Remember this is the same group of people who are fooled by a pair of glasses.
I know, that’s why he stretched it even further in my opinion.
Hahaha touche!
If there is a fourth X-men movie, hopefully it will be better then the third.
I was surprised that Sumperman so dull, with him directing it, since he did such a good job with the first two X-men movies.
I really liked Superman Returns; it’s one of my favorite movies of this decade. Last Stand had decent moments, like actually giving Storm something cool to do, but it mostly a mess. And I really didn’t like Mystique being sidelined so early in the movie. She is the most awesome X-villain there is. She draws you in and makes you trust her, then she (sometimes literally) stabs you in the back.
I think it was to show the Magneto was all about the “cause”
Also I am tired of the Rogue moping around storyline in all the movies.
What did you like about Superman Returns? There was nothing to it. He lifted a lot of stuff. Big Deal. How does he lift a whole island made of Kryptonite?
And then there was Superboy… *shudders and gags*
Egads… SR was *terrible*. It wasn’t a good movie, and it was a horrible Superman movie. It made no sense at all as far as Superman’s powers and weaknesses, the villian was lousy (ok, lousy to the tenth power), and the whole Superboy idea was the worst idea on film of the decade.
Singer is over rated!! The X-men movies did well at the box office because the franchise is very popular and they made good casting choices for the characters.
Nah. Singer’s approach was damn brilliant. Sorry you don’t get it, and that’s too bad for you.
