Warner Bros. is developing a stage musical based on children’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sam Mendes may direct through his Neal Street Productions, which is producing the project. Scottish playwright David Greig is writing the book, while Hairspray‘s Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will compose the music.

don’t they already have that called “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”?
You had me at Sam Mendes but Marc Shaiman, too!
This and STILL Nightmare Before Christmas is not being adapted to be a stage musical?!? What is wrong with producer’s brains?
I suspected this would come. Are Shaiman & Wittman writing a completely new score, or songs in addition to the Newley/Bricusse songs of the original film (“Oompa Loompa”, “Candy Man”, “Pure Imagination”, “Cheer Up, Charlie” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket”, “I Want It Now”)?
