Richard Jenkins, best known for his starring role in last year’s The Visitor, will play the lead adult character in the remake of the 2008 original Swedish arthouse film Let the Right One In. Accompanying him in the horror flick to be directed by Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves are two teens Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz. Smit-McPhee can next be seen opposite Viggo Mortensen in The Road, while Moretz recently starred in this summer’s indie hit (500) Days of Summer. Production on the film begins in November in New Mexico.

Despite the fact that those are all promising players in the mix, this movie is the epitome of UNNECESSARY. Just watch the original, people! Sigh.
I agree the original is AMAZING. It is not going to get any better, which means that it’ll probably be no good. Subtitles are not that bad, just watch the original!
As uual, Hollyweird has to remake a great film so it can be dumbed down for the American teen audience. Do I see a “PG-13″ rating here?
The original film is fantastic! There is no need for a remake. How ridiculous!
Why are they remaking this movie??? I mean, personally, I didn’t like the original, but almost everyone I’ve talked to liked it. I doubt I’ll like it more as a remake and I highly doubt everyone else who loved the original will enjoy the remake.
And especially so soon after! If Hollywood has to jump in to remake a great foreign film, can’t they wait at least a decade or so until there’s something different to add than English dialogue?
Sarah.. thanks… I thought I was the only one who didn’t like it. I am the target demographic for foreign/indie films, so I thought I’d love it but… man, was it slow. (So Scandinavian, ha!)
Anyway, even so, I think it’s a bad idea to remake it – I can’t see an American sensibility making it more appealing for many more people.
