Kirsten Dunst testifies in purse-snatching trial

According to the AP, Kirsten Dunst took the stand today against James Jimenez, who is charged with stealing her $2000 Balenciaga bag and its contents (including $2000 in cash) out of a New York hotel suite where the actress was filming How To Lose Friends and Alienate People in 2007. Jimenez is on trial for burglary. Dunst eventually recovered the purse and her credit cards.

Mackenzie Phillips returning to Oprah on Friday with half-sister Chynna Phillips

Mackenzie Phillips, who made headlines this week when she revealed an incestuous relationship with her musician father John Phillips, is returning to the Oprah Winfrey show tomorrow with her half-sister Chynna Phillips, EW.com has confirmed. Chynna will be live in the Chicago studio, while Mackenzie will appear via satellite. Mackenzie first revealed her explosive secret on Oprah’s show Wednesday. The sisters will not be on the whole hour. Oprah’s other guest will be Jay Leno.

American Idol's Justin Guarini getting married on Sunday

American Idol’s first season runner up Justin Guarini will wed fiancee Reina Capodici on Sunday in a small family ceremony on a private estate near their families’ homes in Pennsylvania. Guarini recently covered the Red Carpet for TV Guide Channel’s Emmy Awards coverage and regularly hosts Idol Tonight for the channel.

Simon Cowell's camp: No definite plan for American 'X Factor'

Responding to reports that American Idol judge Simon Cowell is trying to bring his UK reality show X Factor to America, a rep for Cowell issued the following statement to EW :  “A spokesperson for [Cowell's production company] Syco tv has said that no definite plan has been made for the US show. There has been speculation for a while that it will come to America and there will continue to be speculation.”

CBS' Leslie Moonves, Julie Chen welcome baby boy

Thank God it didn’t happen before the much-anticipated Big Brother finale! CBS announced today that CBS Corp CEO Leslie Moonves and his wife-cum-Big Brother host Julie Chen welcomed their first child this morning in Los Angeles. Charlie Moonves was born at 9:40 a.m. and the network says he and his mother were doing well. Chen regaled her Big Brother fans with an eclectic collection of maternity togs while hosting this summer’s edition of Big Brother (ah, we remember the polka-dotted ensemble well). While blogging for EW, she even referred to her son as the “Chentot.”

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart file $1 million lawsuit over nude video

According to MSNBC, The Grey’s Anatomy doc and his wife filed a suit today in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Gawker.com, the gossip-and-media website that posted a 12-minute video from 2007 featuring the couple cavorting, while nude or partially clothed, with the former Miss United States Teen turned Playboy model Kari Ann Peniche (she will also appear on Vh1′s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew this fall).

The suit claims that Gawker refused to comply with a cease and desist request after first posting the video and then “went on to maliciously distribute an uncensored copy of the video, gratuitously including nude shots” of the video’s three subjects.

Simon Cowell may bring 'X Factor' to America

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Cowell may bring his hit UK talent competition X Factor to American television as part of the $50 million per year pact that will keep him on American Idol until 2012. X Factor, which launched the career of singer Leona Lewis, has been on Britain’s ITV for six seasons.

Kirk Cameron to distribute altered Darwin book

Former sitcom star Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) recently posted a YouTube video explaining his plan to distribute a doctored version of Darwin’s The Origin of Species that contains an introduction promoting creationism. Cameron, a vocal Christian advocate, intends to distribute 50,000 copies to college campuses around the country on Nov. 19, two days before the 150th anniversary of the book’s publication.

Stanley Tucci joins Cher, Christina Aguilera in 'Burlesque'

Stanley Tucci will star with Cher and Christina Aguilera in musical film Burlesque, Variety reports. Aguilera plays a small-town singer who tries to make it big in a Cabaret-style club run by Tucci. Cher plays the club owner’s best friend, a former dancer who mentors the young girl. Steve Antin will direct the project, which starts shooting Nov. 9 for a Thanksgiving 2010 release.
